    Not comparing players but JUST the stats between The Lisbon Lions and current possible 9IAR with figures just up to yesterday's League cup final.
    Just between 1965/66 to 1973/74 seasons and 2011/12 season to current season.

    Win ratio in 9IAR seasons - league comp only

    Lions = 74.23%
    Current = 75.31%

    To exceed the Lions 9IAR win ratio the current squad will have to win ALL of the remaining 20 league matches this season

    Win ratio in 9IAR seasons - ALL European comps only

    Lions = 60%
    Current = 43.86%

    Trophies
    Lions = 1
    Current = 0

    Even if the current Celtic team win ALL remaining matches in Europa league, and therefore the Europa league, this season they won't exceed Lions win ratio in Europe.

    How many league games in a season, in the '60s?

    Interesting stats there, thanks Drak.

    Would be interested to know, taking the European stats out of the overall figures and simply comparing the domestic records achieved.

    Considering Stein's team made at least the Final 4 of European competition no less than 5 times (1966, '67, '70, '72 & '74) but that they were all straight K/O competitions without league phases and taking into account the exponential centralization, concentration and monopolization of the former G-14 clubs and thier directly associated leagues, which has only further served to secure the interests of the haves at that level, which has only served to change the playing field in their favour, as opposed to the far more level one as evident from the 60's through to the early 90's.

    That is also before taking into account the different levels of athleticism & sports science involved from then to now, the evolution of the rules that govern the game having changed, the stature of the Club as a stand alone entity and as part of a domestic league as a whole, the rise in professionalism, commercialization and globalization in the game and even the most central, obvious and essential focal point of the game itself - the ball itself how it has changed so much from then to now - and the effects all of these things have had in the 50 years between then & now.

    So looking at these stats without taking this into account would be remiss.

    Other interesting stats would be:
    • Number of different players used
    • The percentage of homegrown players (UK & Ire) compared with external recruited
    • The overall for and against in domestic competitions
    • The respective clean sheets
    • The respective records between Celtic v R****** then compared with Celtic v deadco & sevco now.
    There is enough to write a book on all of this, comparing these 2 eras, lol.

    Would the Lions have played in the Glasgow Cup during this time ?

    That's yet more games unless it was reserves?
