I'm the same in some ways. I've never eaten baked beans but they repulse me. I will never eat them.

    Why?

a couple of weeks ago I was slow cooking some chicken in a smokey tomato type sauce that I concocted, the sauce I was left with reminded me slightly of baked bean sauce, but better. More smokey and tasty. I kept half of it and bought some haricot beans the next day and make my own version of baked beans, was lovely.

Even if yer ma accidentally put beans on yer plate, and then took them off,.plate was a write off. It might have touched the chips!:smiley-laughing002:

I hated them too. Now i can take them, but generally dont.

Cooked tomatoes, or tinned tomatoes......dont even go there. Couldnae put it in my mouth! And yet i can eat tomato sauces! :43:

Didn't think it was humanely possibly to hate baked beans, best food there is. Can with and on loads of things and are very cheap. They're literally perfect.

I don't know the reason why, they just repulse me. I used to really hate peas and mushrooms, but got over that. I eat peas regularly now although still not keen on the texture of mushrooms. In line with the thread, mushroom soup is decent. But bakes beans seem to be a no go. I balk when they're near me.

    For Heinz :

    Mushroom
    Tomato
    Vegetable

    In that order.

The rest I'll eat, but those three are the ones I'd request if they were on the menu

Baxter's Pea and Ham is lovely, but their tomato is a bit *.

Best Heinz soup: Kidney, absolutely delish.

I make the easiest soup ever and it can be frozen in portions or just kept on the stove top for a few days covered (heat up at least once every day to stop it going off). Lovely with a nice crusty roll. I buy half dozen or so from Lidl and freeze them taking a few out in the morning to have with soup.

Boil up a big pot of water containing 400g of lentils which have been well rinsed

    Add 400g of grated carrot

    Add 3 ham stock cubes.

Turn down the heat and let it cook for an hour or so. Season to taste. It really is lovely.

I do exactly the same thing for broth although I add Broth mix instead of lentils. You can add left over pieces of chicken or ham to beef it up a bit. I'm allergic to onion or anything of that family such as leek or chives and besides the soup goes off quicker with those in it.

to add a bit more depth of flavour, when boiling the water add some smoked ham ribs(£1-2 from a butcher) and boil for at least an hour(the longer the better) you won't need the stock cubes which are okay but are a bit synthetic. liquidise the soup after simmering it.

Sounds nice might give that a try. Only problem will be to calculate the calories in smoked ham ribs :50:

I don't normally consider calories just the taste. I can see where you are coming from and yes there will be a few more in the ham ribs but the flavour is so much better. just cut down from a bucket full to a bowl in future and you should be alright:smiley-laughing002:
