Well i dont agree with everything he believed in or stood for, and he did come across as arrogant, but he was a very good campaigner and i found him intriguing.

    Loved his quotes also.

An interesting development. Here's hoping they actually go through with it.

And another article highlighting freedom of speech at its finest!

    A little bit more information for those who can't be arsed clicking the link;

I'm all for freedom of speech, and the magazine certainly should not be censored, but I can't really see that kind of thing as satire.

Maybe it's just because I'm British, but * like private Eye is satire. You get a few laughs at the close-to-the-bone jabs at prominent political figures and so forth, but this?

    Nah, not for me.

    Totally agree.

It's just hate. Bordering on racism. Plain and simple.
    They should be shut down.

Suppose the usual suspects will be here soon to tell us all about free speech.

Got to agree with Senna here. They definitely shouldn't be allowed to express their rights as free human beings, I mean, how dare they?! Their rights should end where our feelings begin. I guess I could just ignore their magazine completely, never purchase one, and totally ignore everything they do, but * that, am I right?! Shut them down!

Hmm not sure here, it seems to be as how the individual interoperates/views it. As the article says - The implication that all refugees grow up to be gropers has outraged many, but some people have defended the cartoon and interpreted it as a satire on tabloid perceptions of refugees. -
So I am unsure if they mean to be offensive/are having a pop in a racist way tbh. I kind of see it as having a pop at the tabloids, however that could be wrong as I don't know enough about the 'cartoonist' and his/her views , if that makes sense.

I agree with most of what you've written, but the part in bold doesn't sit well with me.

Surely shutting down anyone or anything that we disagree with is Fascism, no?

I'd hope that the public would simply stop buying the magazine, which would eventually result in them going out of business.

I think (and hope) that this cartoon is aimed at people who, following the New Year attacks, now tar all the refugees with the same brush and that the cartoon is not aimed at the refugees themselves.

Otherwise, the cartoon would not really fit in a satirical paper.

    Possibly.
But we're quick to ask for Abu Hamza and his like to be deported or arrested for him expressing his right to 'free speech'.
Several posters on here get very offended when certain songs are sung at Ibrox and everywhere else in Scotland.
I'm sure if some Neo *'s set up a magazine and nearly every edition was dishing out the same kind of stuff about Jews the Police would raid it and it would be shut down.

People are more likely and actually do invoke the 'free speech' when it's usually something they agree with themselves.

It's easy to see how the cartoon could be satirical. However, is there a supporting article to give context to the cartoon?

    Not that i can find.
Also going by their previous satire of Muslims and Islam i find it hard to believe it's meant as a witty 'look how the world sees Muslims haha' type.
They thrive and rely on controversy.

    And here they are...

I think the satire is how quickly public opinion can change and how fickle our onion of refugees is

Do you understand the meaning of satire? Or are you being satirical now?

Charlie Hebdo is quite left wing and anti racist. Why would they change that view overnight?

imo it's borderline racism, and depicting a 3yr old child lying dead is * scummy.not condoning what happened last yr on there premises, but * like they have printed isn't exactly endearing them to a certain demographic.

if this was a cartoon depicting a jew in the same manner there would outright condemnation, poor poor taste.
