Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is rumoured to be preparing a final take it or leave it offer for Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell.

Strachan is a long time admirer of former Arsenal youth and now Reading player Sidwell. He is out of contract in the summer, and with Neil Lennon nearing the end of his Celtic career and continuing uncertainty surrounding Thomas Gravesen's future, he would be a significant addition to the midfield.

Celtic are prepared to make Sidwell one of the clubs highest earners with no transfer fee involved. They would have to fight off interest from several Premiership clubs also tracking the player.

Sidwell has previously played down the prospect of plying his trade in the Scottish Premier League, but with Champions League football and the possibility of winning medals he may find the lure of Celtic too hard to resist.

I have long been an ardent admirer of Steve Sidwell, as posters
    in this Forum know

And if we are deadly serious about continuing our recent progress
in the Champion's League, then Sidwell is the caliber of player
we are going to need, to make a significant impact in next year's
    competition.

    44K Euro?

Would that be about 28K in Sterling?

I would say about that. US dollar to Pound is roughly 1 half. and a Euro is worth like 10 cents more than a dollar. So about that.

Sidwell said in the papers a few weeks back that he does not want to play in Scotland, although money talks.

I dont want Sidwell bloodywell near Celtic Park, I dont like foulers, and one main reason is we lose possession of the ball. :38:

I don't think we've got a hope in * of getting this boy to be honest. No it's not a done deal with Newcastle yet, but he WILL sign for one of the 'other' premiership teams.
