Celtic Football Club Statement 04/01/2019

Celtic Football Club is surprised that there will be no disciplinary action taken by the Scottish FA regarding the incidents during the match on December 29, which have been widely addressed in the media.

It is reported that no action was taken because the match referee saw all of the incidents in question.

Given that the referee took no action at the time, this tends to suggest that such conduct, which in one instance led to a Celtic player, Anthony Ralston, being injured, is acceptable in Scottish football. That cannot be right.

On the day, Celtic did not play well enough to win the match, something we accept. However, this issue goes beyond the result of the match.

Celtic is not the only club this season to raise concerns regarding the standard of officiating at matches in Scotland, concerns which have also been shared by many commentators on the game.

In order to fully understand what is going on, Celtic, our supporters, Scottish clubs and the general Scottish football public need transparency in these matters, and we therefore call on the Scottish FA to allow the referee, John Beaton, to explain these decisions publicly as well as any match officials involved in other similar circumstances.

In the meantime, we have requested a meeting with Scottish FA Chief Executive, Ian Maxwell, and the Association's Head of Refereeing.

 

Glad we are asking questions. Had a feeling we were just going to leave it at that.

 

About time.

We need to get a grip on refereeing with McLean, Madden, Dallas, Thomson and Beaton getting like 90% of big games and Cup semis and finals and all supporting the 1 team.

 

As with other incidents and statements, I wonder if this will just be left as is now.

Seems we bring these out for a sound bite every so often and yet nothing concrete ever goes forward.

Good statement, we should have pointed out the fact McKenna was banned against us despite him being booked during the game, totally contradicting the pish they came away with yesterday.

Other than that, happy something has finally been said as it’s been a long time coming.

SFA has to be the most shambolic football governing body in European if not world football, worse than UEFA and FIFA.

The years upon years of domestic corruption is tragic.

The SFA are a shambles. We need a fan driven campaign to hound these eejits out our game for good. The self preservation society. Tory MP unionist linesmen. Blatant bias. Tainted titles. EBTs. No transparency. Dishonourable men.

I was really hoping that they'd have pointed out the contradictory explanations.

 

Glad the board finally grew a spine against those shower of *, could of been a lot stronger but doing it the right way.

 

We should still be attacking blatant corruption and/or incompetence within our game.
