Well where he was to what he is now, should result in the same result, on the bench.

I couldn't give a * what his level is compared to what it was, currently as someone said above he is our weakest midfielder on current form and needs benched.

Needs a rest. We're running certain players into the ground. He never should've started midweek.

    All about the collective
Rodgers utilised him or atleast played a system that utilised him far better tbf. Theres been a marked difference in his performances under Lenny.

Hes mainly had a wee bit of a restricted role in the deep 2 beside Brown. Different to his time on the left of a 3 where he had constant freedom to go between the lines and link the play, or his time at the centre of the 3 around November last year when he was excelling.

I think we really need to give him a go at the centre of a 3 again with christie and ntcham either side of him. Hes still our best footballer we need to utilise him like it.

How good is he under pressure when cornered or more than one guy breathing down his neck and looking as though he is going to lose the ball.

His pass in the build up to the first goal was genuinely world class, if it was Messi or De Bruyne who played it would be everywhere. He was back to his sublime best tonight.

The similarities to the way he plays football and the way paul mcstay played are remarkable. He actually plays a fair bit quicker/ sharper than mcstay but that could possibly be down to the fact the game as a whole is quicker than 25- 30 years ago.

His weight of pass for the first goal was genuinely top drawer. He’s been off the boil a bit for a few weeks, but was back near his best last night.

Watching it now. He seemed to be getting forward and influencing things much more last night. Great to see.

    Yeah I thought that too.

Played well. For me last two games.

I'd defo play him tomorrow, but at home I'd rest him.

Same with Broony, but at home and instead of 1 up * if we drop Broony, put a striker on as we seem to struggle more without Broony playing the same tactic, mix it up.

CELTIC are set to hand Callum McGregor a bumper new deal.

The Scotland star only signed improved terms in December to tie him to the club until the middle of 2023.

But after summer interest from former boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, Hoops gaffer Neil Lennon revealed fresh negotiations are already under way.

Lenny said: “We are talking at the moment and it’s one we are hoping to get finalised.

There was interest in Callum during the summer, no question about that.

“There was no confirmation of any bid, but there was definite interest and, to be honest, that didn’t surprise me.

We held on to him and it’s important we do the right thing with him.

“The principled thing is to give him a new deal, an improved contract, because he deserves it.

“In the talks that we’ve had so far, Callum has been receptive to staying.”

McGregor is approaching 250 games for Celtic, despite being only 26.

He has been a regular since scoring the winner on his debut under Ronny Deila against KR Reykjavik in the Champions League qualifier in July 2014.

CALLUM McGREGOR has starred in 81 of Celtic’s last 89 games — but Neil Lennon has no intention of resting him.

Midfield dynamo McGregor will be in the Hoops side that travels to Livingston because Lennon admits he’s just too good to leave out

Lenny even started him in the Betfred Cup rout of Partick Thistle, despite resting nearly all of his top stars that night.

As he revealed talks have started with a view to extending the Scotland star’s contract, Lennon said: “Callum is so reliable. I think people take that for granted, because he has that consistency of performance week in, week out.

“People are saying he needs a rest, but he’s too good a player to rest.

“But we have to strike a balance with Callum, because there’s no question there was fatigue kicking in last year due to the volume of games he played.

We left him out of the trip to Estonia this season, gave him a week off there, and he got the benefit of that.

“As the season goes on and the games come thick and fast I’m sure we’ll give him a break here and there just to keep him fresh — but he’s in a good place at the minute.

“It’s not a case of managing him, but I chat to him about it.

“I’ll always ask Callum how he’s feeling about this game or that, and ask him about needing a break.

“He is alway honest with you, so that’s not really a consideration for me.”

McGregor demonstrated his quality with the pass which led to the Hoops’ opening goal in the win over Cluj on Thursday.

Lennon added: “It was outstanding. I thought Callum was brilliant against Cluj, not just his passing and reading of the game, but physically he looked strong as well.

“He and Scott Brown gave us a real platform in midfield with their interception work, their second ball work and the way they recycled the ball and switched play.

“Not only does Callum do that work but he has the vision and the execution to split defences open.

“He had a brilliant ball in for the Christopher Jullien header as well, he executed that superbly.

“So his all-round game was of a very high quality. I thought he was brilliant in the game in Rennes as well.”
