even if we pull out, that would only limit the amount of soliders killed there. they would still hate us for our way of life, nothing will change that.

Terrorist are terrorists they spread terror in anyway without even killing anyone it's to promote fear to force the goverment to do what they want or even more make the people in their own country turn against the goverment which is happening in america and britain so Terrorist are to blame but america and britain took the wrong reaction against them.

Iraq war was is stupid and is only to promote america's growing economic fashist ways:

This video explain most of it:

Western intervention throughout recent years in the Middle East has obviously de-stabilised the region, but sometimes I get the feeling that certain followers of Islam would not be happy until every person on the planet is a muslim.

Obviously the USA and Britain as the major ally were forced into action by the 9/11 attacks, then saw the opportunity to remove Saddam. But both governments completely underestimated the backlash and maybe even thought they would be hailed as liberators of the country. Huge mistake which we are still paying the price for, and will probably be paying for years to come.

It is pretty obvious that if you have a problem, any problem, (and this is clearly a problem) you have to work out WHY you have that problem in order to fix it.

We should do everything we can to prevent more attacks, do all we can to break these terrorist cells AND look at what we can do in terms of getting out of their lands so that we can try and solve this problem in the long term too. That is looking ahead.

That depends what you mean. You cant just be a vigilante. You probably know nothing about who is doing what in that commumity. You cant just attack random muslims. I think we need a 3 pronged attack

    1. Intelligence and arrest powers

I would support and fund massively increased intelligence, spying, infiltration - bugs and spooks everwhere in that commumity (no need to be PC here we know which section of the population we need to look at). Recruit from within the asian cummumity. We need to scap some of the so-called human rights that stop us holding obvious suspects (do you know that most of the British terrorists were on file but were thought to be minor players/ walter mittys so were not under full survielance). I believe in a fairly strong arm interventionist socialist state. The open pluralist state is an impossible dream.

    2. Major integration campaign

We also need a campaign of integrating the immigrants: we should ban islamic (and all faith) schools, deport (if born outside UK) or arrest/tag (if born here) mad mullaghs for incitement, the state needs the power to prevent parents from stopping their children from fully integrating. They have to grow up with western values at all costs - otherwise why are they living here???. We need ALL the British islamic religious leaders to state that murder of non-muslims is evil and to pass the names of suspicious or extreme types over to the police who will pass them on to the secret services (give the momney saved by withdrawing to them and triple their size - yes we do need a big brother state for a while). The religious leaders who wont go on TV and say that need deported/ arrested for incitment. Its not a free speech issue (all you are asking them to do is say murder is wrong and to not withhold evidence) and some of them would not let you have free speech iif it was against islam. They killed a dutch politician for critcising fundimentlists. We maybe need to stop taking any immigrants from areas with dangerious anti-western elements or traditions. It really tricky because often the parents are grateful to be in the UK and try to integrate but the children born here have a silly romantic idea of 'back home'. So you cant identify which ones have whch views and just filter out the wrong sorts among the immigrants. Personally, I would only allow immigratoin within the EU. The Poles are the sort of immigrants we want - hard working, law abiding.

    3. Political/ Military

I would pull out of Iraq ASAP, partician Iraq into three states (Sunni. Shiite, Kurd) using regional plebiicites and give Israel an ultimatum to compromise with Palistinians and give them a state - if the Israelis dont, pull out all support and trade block them. Israel is one of the main complaints among the muslims and to be honest Israel's attitute (especially zionists) is no better than the 'kill the infidel' brigade. At least this would remove one of the fiundementalists excuses. Seeing as the source of much of the trouble and training is Pakistan (not Alfganistan or Iraq) we maybe want to look to aid them militarily against their own nutters. They have a 'good dictator' who is anti-fundimentalist but he is obvously struggling. If he is toppled, the world will be a lot more dangerious. Finally, if we moved away from oil energy then that part of the world would return to what it was before oil - a dirt poor medieval backwater of dudes on camels not is a position to terrorisise us.

This is true but it is a tiny percentage and a dispassionate view of this mess can only conclude that Western powers are hellbent on forcing their ideas on the rest of the world too. Our governments are trying to force their agenda on to the Middle East which is equally wrong.

What we seem to ignore is that Saddam was not an Islamic fundamentalist at all. He was the enemy of them. He was kept in power in Iraq by the yanks so that he would fight the Iranians (who were fundamentalist) throughout the 1980s. The attempt by US and UK governments to link Saddam to 9/11 was a complete fabrication.

Throughout the 1980s Saddam was our lacky in the Middle East doing our dirty work. Then when he was deemed to be of no further use we removed him and turned Iraq in to a war zone.

An excellent post. You have clearly been prepared to look at the whole picture.

    EDIT

PS Keltoi. Do you think you could get this sorted by next week ?

America is particularly poor at being a world power - Britain was considerbly more skilled and subtle at this. I think US policy and our mysterious obligation to follow it (there must be a secret reason for this) is a major reason for our problems. Although Britain has done bad stuff in the past, the British were always more into diplomacy etc and a lot less of a blunt instrument than the US. British forces in Iraq have shown much more skill as peacekeepers than their partners. I could not believe the triumphant sticking up of the US flag when Baghdad fell. Pure madness. UK forces had learned a lot by their own mistakes in Ulster. Its like feeling obliged to back up a strong but stupid big brother who starts fights out of some stupid family loyalty. My answer is a huge powerfull armed to the teeth EU force that allows us to cut free from the alliance with the US and make our own policies. I have no illusions that if we were not militarily strong some country would go for us (so keep the nukes) and we cant just drop the alliance with the US right away but we need to make a start at building the EU force. Pity the EU is full of unrealistic pacifists.

it would mean that no british troops would be killed there, the other countries taking part would still lose soldiers.

if we pulled out of iraq, it would mean that it was only our soldiers that would not be killed. the terrorists would still come over and attempt to bomb this country until we changed our way of life. we will never change it, so they will continue.

Us being in bed with america boils down to us not being in the Euro, with Iraq the Americans were jumping at the chance to over throw Saddam, for one major reason (apparently) the Metradollar, all oil in the world is dealt with using dollars, so if your Japan and you want to buy oil from Iraq firstly you need dollars, so you have to go to the americans and trade or sell stuff to them to get the dollars, this is like printing free money for the yanks. Saddam however months before the first bombs dropped on Iraq started to deal oil purely in Euros. Thus killing the states ability to get free money from an asset that wasnt theirs. Britain isnt in the Euro, so we would not have gained from this, however we do have close industrial links to the states, if the states suffer economically so do we. My opinion is that if Britain was using the Euro, we wouldnt even be out in Iraq.

That ram raid into an asian shop I was speaking about yesterday was true, it's on the front page of the express.

Did anyone see the front page of the record?

"I kicked a burning terrorist so hard in the bollocks that I torn a tendon in my foot".

    LOL, only in Glaesga!!

If the other countries who have troops there withdrew also then they wouldn't die there.

I do not accept that they will continue to attack us in our own country if we weren't attacking them in theirs. I do not recall Islamic extremists inflicting terrorist attacks on us before the Gulf wars. There was a terrorist atrocity at the Munich Olympic in 1972 (?) but from memory all those killed were Israeli athletes, and I think that is a slightly different issue.

that was then, this is now. some muslims are becoming more radicalised and that will continue. they want everyone to become followers of islam, that is not going to happen. they do not like our capitalist secular way of life, and they would spread as much fear as they can to change our 'evil' ways.

not once have i denied that the presence in iraq and afghanistan is not * them off. their anger is made up off a lot of things, it has just came to the forefront because of the war.
