Fireworks - or pyrotechnics, as it is called - is illegal on the Danish football stadiums. That fact does not change the fact that several fangruppe call despite a constantly increasing security efforts in the area still have taken it into use in the stands, and the clubs were subsequently hit by fines.

Therefore, during the past 12 months has put much effort in developing a new, legal version of pyrotechnics. The first products can brondby.com present today.

Brondby has in association with both the Danish Football Supporter Association (DFF), Brøndby IF's fan groups and pyrotekniker Tommy Cordsen tried to get all the parties to meet and satisfy:

    - The safety of everyone present at the stadium
    - the fans' wishes and possibilities with regard to use of pyrotechnics
    - Legislation

So far it has not been possible to reconcile these points, and therefore have attempted to ban and regulate their way out of it. Brondby sees the process differently. We want to develop and cooperation.

    Pyrotechnics lower temperature
After talks with DFF, Brøndby IF has taken the lead and is in cooperation with pyroteknikeren Tommy Cordsen in the process of developing a pyrotechnic product that is safe to use and lawfully in relation to fireworks law.

Brondby IF's security chief, Mickel Lauritsen says:

    - Our objective has been to identify a product that can fully replace the pyrotechnic products used today. This work has so far resulted in a product that meets a number of the requirements of the various stakeholders. We are very proud to help introduce.

Lasse Bauer, who is SLO at Brøndby IF, adds:

    - We are very pleased with the preliminary product, and we see it as a natural first step to ensure a fantastic framework for Brondby IF's matches.

    - The new fireworks will when it comes in, could be used in the stands, and it is available in different colors to match the club colors. The temperature of the product is so low that one can drive a hand through the flame. The project should be seen as a first step towards solving the problems you have with pyrotechnics today, and the development of even better pyrotechnics in the long term.

Only the first step - the product developed
Brondby and fyrværkerne have worked to develop the legal flares / Roman candles in 12 months, but even if we have reached a good product that legislation accepts, the project is not yet home. The current product does not cover the entire needs, located in the present and used products. Therefore, work is continuing to reach the goal with a product that can fully replace the existing and used Roman candles / flares.

Pyrotekniker and inventor Tommy Cordsen says:

    - "Now all invented," said Lord Kelvin in the late 1800s. That he was fortunately not right. And if you do not start a trend, nothing happens. But now more with time stand open, and those must be ready to intervene, says Tommy Cordsen, in collaboration with Brøndby IF have developed the new Roman candles.

    - The newly developed product is both røgsvagt and burns at a low temperature that it belongs in the low hazard class. In this way, it is legal to use under the Danish legislation.

    - With the resources and techniques available in the pyrotechnic industry right now, we can not reach an equally strong luminescence at low heat, as the Roman candles that are currently being used illegally in football stadiums, but we are very satisfied with the result we have achieved so far as it gives football fans up new opportunities, says Tommy Cordsen.

Securitychief Mickel Lauritsen looking forward to that work continues to improve the legitimate products.

    - We are always working to give everyone the best possible conditions within the framework dictated by law. We want our games to be dealt with the best possible opportunities for our fans, but also for the safety aspect. We have taken another step to create a festive setting for Brondby IF's football games, and that means that we can actually offer the option of using pyrotechnics during legal framework at Brøndby Stadium.

    - We are proud and happy, but we are not resting on our laurels. We would like to further develop the new product and thus improve the chances of a beautiful and festive mood during our matches within the security framework, says Mickel Lauritsen.

The work is now in progress, and both Brøndby IF, pyrotekniker Tommy Cordsen, Brondby IF's fans and DFF is still part of the process. At the same time Brondby take the initiative to include all stakeholders in this work, so we can get the best possible development and the best environment for all.

    Background
For years it has been a challenge for clubs at home and abroad, many groups of fans watching pyrotechnics as a significant part of the atmosphere. Legislative prohibits both Danish and foreign authorities the use of fireworks at football matches - in particular flares, which because of its heat can be dangerous in large gatherings.

The use represents a major challenge both for safety and because of the amounts allocated each year to both combat the challenge and the fines issued by the DBU / UEFA. It is currently a battle without winners and the photo has been for many years, so the parties have not been able to find common ground, and the challenges are growing.

Brøndby IF are one of the clubs where fans patronize the use of pyrotechnics, which gives everyday challenges. Brondby has a passionate and large fan base around Denmark, where the use of pyrotechnics is a component of the tools they like to use to support and back the team up. Groups of supporters have in the dialogue expressed that they do not see the use as a protest, a provocation, nothing rebellious or similar, but they use it as part of the identity and the way we think we can give the best effect and best support for the team and the club.

Brøndby IF have worked long with improvements in the security and follow all responsible clubs legislation and seeks to prevent the use of pyrotechnic articles using various safety initiatives. It requires a lot of resources and time for both matches and in everyday life, which is constantly working on improvements and developments on various fronts. However, we must also recognize that it is a match that is difficult to "win", and as it looks now, it is a situation with no winners, providing several challenges:

    - Wait times at the entrances to the stadium will be extended with related security challenges.
    - Visitation is effective, but it will never be possible to find 100% of the prohibited items, and users go further and further to prevent the inspectors in it.
    - The clubs use large amounts annually to improvements in security, but the effects will still enter the stadium.
    - The clubs continue to use large amounts of fines from DBU and UEFA, despite the fact that you do everything possible to keep objects away from the stadium.
    - In the stands may inspectors and police many times to look at while going on greater "pyroshows" where the masks and many people make it dangerous to break into.
    - On removal / expulsion of the persons involved in the stands puts you both other spectators, but also inspectors and police officers at risk, since agitation and fights often come with it.

It is with this in mind that Brøndby IF in association with both DFF, Brondby IF's fan groups and pyrotekniker Tommy Cordsen has focused on the challenge and started the development of a legally defensible alternative to the current pyrotechnics.
