throwing this out there on the outside chance that someone could help.

Got a worcester 28i combi boiler that packed in this morning, engineer said its the circuit board thats gone, no surprise that its not covered on my insurance.

Anyone happen to have a spare circuit board from one of these kicking about that i could buy? :giggle1:

Major long shot i know but dont have the money to fork out £400 odd on a new one or worse a new boiler!

got a Worcester 24i combi boiler , we do a monthly £10 scheme and a couple of times when its broke down it was fixed no added cost , id try and get a second opinion as both times it was something to do with the pilot light that just needed a clean . they schemes are peace of mind .

You call out an engineer under your insurance , you dont know what is wrong with boiler, they findd the problem , now they want to charge you for finding what is wrong? pay them * all for call out , even if circuit board is not covered , call out is covered

British Gas told me about 4/5 years ago that my boiler was * and it's still running fine.......* just don't want to work on it. If they continue to take my money for Homecare cover then i'll continue to call them out if i need to. If they write it off i'll get a contractor at half the price to put a new one in and they'll lose the homecare too because it'll be under warranty for a while!!

double check that before you pay out for the call mate. I have a standard policy for boiler only (not the rest of the system) but i'm fully covered for call-outs and annual service. However, i think they brought out newer poilices where you pay less a month but there's an excess on it so you may have one like that

We used to go on You Tube to fix ours. There's not that many parts that need replaced in a boiler and over the years we replaced them all! My Bro in law is an electrician and he dealt with the circuit board. Our boiler was a Baxi something and was over 20 years old. Still worked fine when we sold the house.

Is it a just a coincidence that it’s packed in with this weather?

Have you tried thawing out external pipes with a kettle?

My mates parents boiler stopped working 2 days ago, they have it on a timer which goes off at 11pm then back on at 7am, it didn’t come on again that day. They phoned me to go have a look at the condensate pipe. Went up the ladder and the condensate pipe was frozen and full of ice. Just approx 22mm diameter white plastic pipe. There was a few bends in it before dropping down into a 50mm pipe. Managed to get the pipe defrosted with warm water, boiler fired up again and got them to change the setting from timed to continuos, reducing the chance of the pipe freezing again. Maybe worth checking that just to make sure that ain’t the problem. There’s is also a Worcester boiler, couple years old.

the direct debit will be getting cancelled and they can whistle for their money if i am billed.

apparently just a coincidence, tried all that stuff before he came out, i actually came to the conclusion myself that it was the circuit board before he told me as i had spent all day doing all the tricks learned from the forums.

it’s definitely electrical, theres power going into the circuit board but nothing working, it was a bitter night last night i tell ye! The Mrs has got the oven on with the door open trying to heat the house :giggle1:

Yeah condensing boilers are bad for that in this weather.
I've heard of British gas * telling people their boilers unsafe because of this :31:

Am sure the 28i is bad for the board failing (hence the amount on ebay)
Like a said @Jax Teller you want me to get a price from the suppliers? Means u have manufacture warranty rather than eBay refurbs?

It's times like these you need a calor gas heater or a few wee halogen heaters in the cupboard.

If its no a hassle, then aye i wouldnt mind cheers.
Weve got a calor gas fire but i dont like having it on for too long with our one year old in the house. Head starts pounding and House ends up stinking of gas, dont want to risk anything.

@Jax Teller spoke to the suppliers, they need the serial number and GC number of the boiler? It's because there is many variations of that boiler.

Should be on the boiler somewhere mate
