Always had a soft spot for him. Still stays in Glasgow and plays for Rossvale Juniors! :smiley-laughing002:

He left Scotland and came back a good few years ago did he not? Set up his own fitness company - Better with Petta, or something equally as cringey.

That season he had with us, superb! remember him having to be subbed off just before kickoff against the filth at Hampden at the end of his excellent season, after that didn't seem quite the same.

HIS car had been spat on then he was LAUGHED at as he jumped into it.

Bobby Petta might not have made it off the bench the night Inverness famously sent Celtic spinning out of the Scottish Cup.

But it didn’t spare him from the hostile reaction to that stunning result back in February 2000.

The 3-1 loss to Caley Thistle — then a second-tier side — sent shockwaves around the WORLD.

It led to a dressing-room bust-up between Mark Viduka and assistant Eric Black — and saw rookie boss John Barnes axed 48 hours later.

But it’s the post-match reaction of the fans towards the players which has never left Petta.

The Dutch winger never experienced anything worse than the fallout that fateful night, which was part of a fraught first season for him at Parkhead.

But Petta insists the players weren’t to blame — because they had as little belief in Barnes as the supporters.

As the Hoops prepare to host the Highlanders again in Saturday’s fifth-round clash, Petta, 42, said: “That night was surreal.

“I was a substitute and didn’t come on. But it was a horrible experience.

“Looking back, you could see it happening over the season.

“It started off well but then before we knew it the team wasn’t gelling and you could feel the pressure growing.

“The fans weren’t happy. There was a disastrous atmosphere in the dressing room, as you can imagine.

“After the game the stewards came in and told us we couldn’t just go to our cars.

“They said they would need to escort us to them because it was a hostile crowd.

“The players’ cars had to be brought forward. It was the worst I’ve known after a game.

“Some cars got spat on. Regi Blinker came out and the supporters booed him.

“Ian Wright came out and they booed him. Oliver Tebily came out and they booed him.

“I came out and they laughed at me like I was a joke. It wasn’t nice to be in that situation.

“Okay I’m part of the squad but you had to understand as players we didn’t agree with the way we played anyway.

“We didn’t have the players to play the system. It was a matter of time what happened happened.

“That game summed everything up. The Mark Viduka thing wasn’t pleasant either.

“Things were said and people went crazy. It was a bit of an eye-opener. I’d never seen anything like it.”

While the reaction to the result over the coming days and weeks was far from easy to handle, Petta now reflects on that night as a watershed moment.

Not just for the Hoops, but for his own career at the club.

Kenny Dalglish would take over for the rest of the season before Martin O’Neill was installed in the summer.

Petta said: “Sometimes as a club you need to go through that. You need to go down that ditch to get back up and that’s exactly what happened.

“I’m glad I experienced the bad times first because then I appreciated the good times.

“You realised how important the club was to the fans and what it means to them.

“It was character-building and a blessing in disguise.”

O’Neill’s arrival would spark a stunning turnaround in fortunes as the club was infused with new signings and a fresh approach.

Much like Brendan Rodgers has managed in the first few months since taking over from Ronny Deila.

Petta said: “Back then the new manager came in and there was a clean slate.

“I was a winger but John Barnes played me in central midfield.

“Martin played 3-5-2 and put me on the wing. I had to run up and down the pitch but finally I was in a position where I could showcase myself.

“Now Brendan has come in, looked at the players and added some of his own.

“Wing play is what Celtic has always been renowned for and it’s good to see it there again.

“But Brendan also gets a lot of respect from the players.

“That’s something the previous coach maybe didn’t get.

“His approach, demeanour, the way he goes about things in training, how he responds and communicates are all very good.

“Off the park he has found the right balance too.

“There’s a purpose to what he wants to do and there’s a freedom there that was lacking over the last few seasons.

“He understands his players and the players understand him.”

Add all that together and Petta can’t see Caley Thistle stopping the Hoops from extending their unbeaten domestic run to 30 games this season.

Especially when the only win the Highlanders have managed in their last 14 outings was against Elgin in the last round.

Petta, who runs his own personal training business, is looking for a chance to coach himself.

Never forget that 6-2 game. First time as a Celtic fan that I had real belief in a team. Seeing Petta produce that display made me feel anything was possible.

It seems to me that he'll spout any old * just to get in to the papers, he's been doing it for years.

In my humble opinion of course.

I like Bobby, on his game he was electric, and seems to be a Celt at heart.
