    Pretty much this. You're being told when to laugh. Plus the only joke in it is "LOL THEY ARE NERDS LOOK AT HOW SOCIALLY AWKWARD THEY ARE".

    There's nothing like a good sitcom. And how i met your mother is nothing like a good sitcom, which is a shame beacause i really like the idea but it has been * since about series 3.

    You do know that every episode is flimed in front of a live audience, don't you? That laughter is real.

    There was a behind the scenes type thing on UK television during the holidays showing how it's filmed.

    The laughter comes in at weird moments when nothing funny is happening. Like someone walks in a room - "HAHAHA!"
