    It's brilliant.

The reviews for the two episodes so far this season have been, strangely, not great. Surprised. Think both have been as good as always.

Recently finished The Sopranos and thought it was great but nowhere near as good as The Wire. James Gandolfini gives maybe the best acting performance of all time, and Edie Falco is incredible, but I didn't care about the other characters the same way I did with so many characters in The Wire. Stringer, Frank Sobotka, McNulty, Bunk, Daniels, the kids, Omar, you could watch a series about them individually. When watching The Sopranos every scene without Gandolfini just feels like work to get through.

On your point about the Wire last season, which I would agree was the weakest, The Sopranos' last season wastes several episodes on the Vito storyline, and I could never be bothered with anything AJ related. The Sopranos also had too many instances of them wrapping up a storyline with some convenient writing, like say a random car crash or someone randomly gets cancer or someone, who was supposedly unkillable because they were a made man, getting killed and it doesn't get followed up.

Tbh, I preferred The Shield to The Wire.

My fav is The Sopranos though, if Deadwood had went more than 3 seasons that would probably eclipsed it for me, Ian McShane plays quite simply the best character ever.

I found The Shield such a struggle to watch. Think I watched 3 seasons but I was sort of forcing myself to watch them in the hope that it'd improve. And I like Chiklis.

Anyway, I usually class "serious" TV shows and comedies in different groups. Peep Show has to be the best comedy I've seen. Absolutely genius.

South Park for me ahead of Arrested Development then probably Peep Show.

I do love a good comedy as much as the serious dramas. Watch more of them as I don't have to be in the mood as much as when I have to concentrate on a serious drama.

Surprised you didn't become invested in more Sopranos characters than just Tony. I've always thought the number of great characters in The Sopranos is what separates it from other top shows (I am about halfway through The Wire and would say the same for it so far as well Tbf).

Tony, Christopher, Uncle Junior, Paulie, Silvio, Bobby Bacala, Ralphie, Tony B, Richie Aprile, Big * - all great characters in their own ways.

My favourite "non-serious" shows would be:

    The Simpsons
    Malcolm in the Middle
    King of Queens
    Friends
    The Inbetweeners
    The Royle Family
    Mr.Bean
    Fawlty Towers
    Freaks and Geeks
Two and a half men (Charlie Sheen ones)

I have watched the sopranos, at least a dozen times, so for me nothing comes close to it, its a masterpiece. The wire was good, but let down by a poor second and fifth series, other 3 series were excellent though. Also.....

    lost
    auf weidersehen pet
    true detective
    suits
    house of cards
    gotham
    breaking bad
    the shield
    inbetweeners

I've decided that The Wire is my favourite show ever.

Every season is excellent in its own right.

The characters are superb too - Omar,Chris and Snoop,Bubbles,Michael,Herc and Carver,Sobotka,Jimmy...it all seems so real as well.

HBO's finest,* me off how criminaly slept on and underrated the show is.

Those in the know don't underrate it. It's just perfect TV from start to finish. Only The Sopranos and Twin Peaks contend with it in my opinion.

5 episodes into 11.22.63, it's a 8 episode mini series based on Stephen Kings book.

About an English teacher who travels back in time to try and prevent the assassination of JFK. Sounds * but it's really good, love the 60's setting.

Auf Wiedersehen Pet was a cracking programme. They ultimately took it too far, but series 1 and 2 were superb.

Just started watching Desperate housewives from the pilot and am going right to the end. I used to anticipate this coming on each episode every week. The series title is a bit off putting to guys but is an extremely dark and twisted show. Good strong cast and characters stand out with good acting. If you've never seen it you should invest some time.
