Two police officers have been injured after hundreds of loyalists tried to storm Belfast City Hall after councillors voted to remove the Union flag.

A group forced its way through the back gates and tried to kick the door down minutes after elected members agreed to fly the flag on designated days.

Police used batons and brought in dogs to push the protesters, who had scarves covering their faces, out of the courtyard at the back of City Hall on to Donegall Square South.

Two police officers were treated in hospital after at least one firework, bricks, bottles and other missiles were thrown. It is understood that a council security guard was also hurt.

Fly the flag of Britain in Britain not in Ireland simple as that

So sad and insecure they feel the need to plaster themselves in as many union jacks as possible. What a laughing stock they are.

All because a flag was removed :56:.Do they think the Union is under threat or something? How will getting drunk, attacking people and waving flags around help their cause?

We'll see how many of their faces gets posted on the news for identification, still waiting on the ones from their 4 nights of rioting.

Maybe if they lived in Ardoyne or Short strand it would speed the process up.

Why people from Ireland should be so desperate to flutter the combined flag of Scotland, Wales and England is still beyond my logic. :smiley-laughing002:

They should take a pride in their own fine island, not embarrass themselves sucking up to ours.

I find myself living in Cymru now. Just out of curiosity, where is the Cymru part of that flag?

Not having a go, just genuinely asking.

    Sad *.

And, not that I'm excusing them, but the Union flag doesn't have an explicitly Welsh part if I remember correctly, and the Red part in the saltire background was intended to be a St. Patrick's Saltire/Cross (Ireland) overlapping with the St. Andrew's one (Scotland). From what I remember of school anyway.

Couldn't honestly tell you which bit's supposed to be which, mate.

The whole thing is some kind of bizarre anti-aesthetic mashup as far as I'm concerned - it's like a plan view of an explosion in a lego factory.

I'd much prefer the Welsh flag with the dragon, or the old style Irish flag with the harp. But your flag's a bit like your family I guess, yer stuck with it. :56:
