Fair enough. I can see understand why some might see that as sectarian, I don't myself. There's an irony though as the organisation itself is sectarian.

In the same way that the KKK and ISIS are a sect.

If someone said 'KKK *' would you regard it as sectarian?

There is a grey area sometimes between sects and cults, but that’s maybe another conversation. I don’t really know enough nor have given enough thought to the KKK or ISIS.

I would say the orange order are an ethno-religious/political organisation with their own very specific views, beliefs and activities etc that, in my opinion, makes them a sect of the Christian churches outwith Roman Catholics. i.e. a group of people with somewhat different religious beliefs (typically regarded as heretical) from those of a larger group to which they belong - the definition of sectarian. There will be plenty Protestants, myself included, who do not share their beliefs.

Possibly. We can agree to disagree. I don't sing the chants myself and cringe a bit when it's aimed at anyone with a loose affiliation with Rangers. But a guy like Jimmy Bell I have no problem with calling one.

What part of Roamin in the Glomain is sectarian?

"* King Billy and John Knox" or "Oh it's good to be a Roman Catholic"... personally I think neither is sectarian. A bit weird aye, but not sectarian.

I'm not a Catholic but if someone thinks it's great to be a Catholic and they run down the street shouting it, good for them.

Aye like I say it’s very apt.. and I have no issue with Celtic supporters who sing it.. but we should be under no illusions on what it is.

This is where it gets really technical though. For example, calling Tommy Wright an 'orange *' is accurate, as I believe he is, or was, a member of a lodge. That wouldn't be sectarian. I don't think Boyd is, or has been, a member of a lodge, he is probably one of the few who could fail the entrance exam, so ascribing it to Boyd based on his background or because he played for Rangers is.

I don't want to get into another debate about the intricacies of racism and what constitutes it here, but I would see the term ' *' as racist and not sectarian. That is to say, I consider myself a * *. I believe in a united Ireland and I believe, or at least believe it was necessary in the past, to use armed force to free Ireland and that is, of course, the definition. I know it is often used wrongly as a derogatory term for Catholic, but is it used towards Italian Catholics, for example? Ascribing it to Clarke as a Scottish man from a Catholic background seems to imply he has Irish heritage and, as a result, I would see it as more racist than sectarian. Probably both.
I assume if he was Italian he would simply have been called a 'papist *', which would be sectarian.

Apologies for another rant on the subtleties of racism. I just feel it should be called out for what it is and not turned into 'whataboutery', like Walker has tried to do.

Aye mate there’s levels and intricacies around all this. It’s good to hear all opinions, angles and views.

It’s Friday night though, so I’m kinda done here. Good post though mate :50:
