American defender Andrew Gutman is expected to be unveiled as Celtic’s fourth signing of the window imminently.

The 22-year-old - who spent time on trial with Rangers just last month - has impressed Brendan Rodgers and a deal is understood to have been agreed to take him to Parkhead.

Gutman has spent time with Indiana Hoosiers at college level and was also being targeted by Chicago Fire. But the Hoops have won the race for his signature

Chicago Fire chiefs have admitted Andrew Gutman knocked back the chance to sign for the MLS giants to join Celtic.

The US full back is poised to become the latest addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad in what is turning out to be a busy transfer window for the champions.

Gutman, 22, was on trial with Rangers, but will instead join their Glasgow rivals this month.

The Illinois-born prospect was eligible to sign as a homegrown player for MLS giants Chicago Fire and they confirmed they offered him a deal.

But the club's general manager Nelson Rodriguez revealed the player opted to join Celtic instead.

He said: "Andrew was offered a contract, but chose not to accept it.

The left back, who played for Indiana University, won the prestigious 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy in the USA's college football system after netting 11 goals and 9 assists in 23 appearances, before moving to Scotland.

He is expected to be unveiled by the Premiership leaders this week.

Hopefully not, I'd rather stick with Izzy as he's done well for us when called in. This guy would be 3rd choice for me.

Love how the only quote in that is "offered a contract, chose not to accept it"

Turns in to facts that he has signed for us.

Likely has to be honest, but I'm always sceptical when there is absolutely no quotes that say what the headline claims.

Get that guys, just that there was no quote I'm the article to say he rejects Chicago and that he has also signed for us.
Kinda sounds still like speculation at that point.

Knocked back the Huns because he wanted to sign for a club with at least 6 years of history

Really pessimistic about this signing to be honest. At 22 he is no longer considered a youth and hasnt played yet at any kind of standard close to where we are at.

Given our current league situ and form i feel like we need to be signing players who are going to come in and have an impact and compete for a place in the team. To have any kind of expectations on this guy to come in and match the intensity of the league and of our level when compared with NCAA is unrealistic.
In all honesty i can see him not playing a senior game and being punted on in the summer.

Hopefully he shows a great apitite and desire and is a success and will happily eat my words if wrong.

I dont know how that point can in any way be a positive for us. We are a professional football team playing at a high level. We need someone ready to come in and hit the ground running.
