Would of totally agreed with that, even at the start of last season before anycunt would of guessed they'd go straight down. Sunderland job has been a poisoned chalice for years!

Seems a bit different now though with them out of debt and under new ownership, them being in league one is actually even better for Ross I think. They will probably receive something stupid like £20m in parachute payments this year, so should in theory still be able to romp that division, even if they lose some of their better players.

Has next season to get his foot in the door and win a title, push for mid-top half Championship the season after, then go for a push on the play-offs/auto promotion. Much better route for him rather than the typical way of being thrown in at the deep end at a struggling club and then getting the sack for the inevitable.

Quite surprised he went there. Thought he would have had a crack in the spl with St Mirren.

Great job if he can get it right, and get the right support from the new upstairs regime.

St Mirren supporters must be gutted though.

No way man, absolute no brainer IMO.

There's every chance St. Mirren have a nightmare next season and he would be back to square one. With Sunderland he's taking over a big club (a club he wouldn't of got if not for their circumstances), huge wage rise, club with potential to do back-to-back promotions - An EPL club in the waiting.

The alternative, staying at St. Mirren, gets him where? He hopes for a top 6 finish, then what? Lennon was winning the * thing and got the Bolton job!

McInness has won a div 1 title, a national cup, few cup finals, beat the huns to 2nd with a much smaller budget and he was offered the Sunderland job only last year.

If it works out over the next 2-3 years, then his job prospects soar, and if it doesn't, he gets by far the biggest pay day of his career.

Aye Sunderlands seems * on the surface, but if he can pull off a quick turnaround, you wouldn't be shocked to see them back in the Premier League in 2 years time.

Purely dependant on boardroom level, they are clearly not a League 1 side but with absolute crooks like Martin Bain running them into the ground that’s what they’ve become.

If the club sort themselves out he’ll get them back into the championship.

Kluivert & Guti both being mentioned.

Imagine seeing either of them cutting about Paisley? Wild.

Little will they admit, the only reason Gerrard is here is because of Rodgers (and a fat pay cheque).
    Rodgers factor.

    That'd be a great appointment.

Good place for us to send a player or two out on loan if Stubbs goes there.
