He was one of my favourites from the O'Neil era.

Oh wait, but so was Agathe Mjallby Sutton McNamara Balde Larsson Lambert * the list goes on and on that full squad was full of favourites a loved that team:56:

A honestly find it hard to pick out a second favourite after Larsson.

Crazy as he was superb for us. I'd have Thompson on the left of my team before Nakamura.

    Petrov is mine.

In fact I went through a stage when I was younger of Stan being my favourite ahead of Larsson.

Henrik's favourite teammate at Celtic. Says it all.

Should have had more England caps considering their lack of left sides midfielders through his career.

I'll never forget Thompson's goal against the Huns in 03/04 when we won 1-0, I think. The movement on that ball.

He was a great player but then again so was the whole team at the time. Agree to i'd have him in my team before Nakamura.

Was delighted when we signed him. I'd been following his career from he was a kid at Bolton. They had a great team and great cup runs around that time. Big Stubbsy was in that team also.

Loved him, an integral part of the team which defined my younger days supporting the Hoops.

So would I. He has 4 times the amount of European goals as Naka.

I'd suspect more than that amount of Old Firm goals.

Naka was a genius but Thommo was something else.

just sitting here watching some past footage of Thompson, I didn't realise he scored so many goals against the Huns, 7 goals in total he scored against them.

Nobody has scored more goals for us against the Huns in the last 30 years than him except Henrik (15) & Hartson (8)

And nobody has been been sent off against the Huns more than him, 3 red cards.

He's one who hates the Huns like we do :shamrock:

Don't hear much about him these days.

How is he getting on? I always feared drink would get the better of him.

Following Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Chesterfield, manager Lee Clark confirmed to the media that Alan Thompson had been appointed as his new assistant manager.
A former midfielder with over 500 appearances to his name, Thompson began his career with Newcastle United before moving to the North West with Bolton Wanderers. He left Bolton in 1998 to join Aston Villa where he made 46 appearances for moving north of the border to join Celtic. Alan spent seven years in Scotland before returning to England with Leeds United, initially on loan. He finished playing in 2008, following a loan spell at Hartlepool United, and represented England on one occasion in 2004.
The move into coaching came soon after retiring from playing when he joined Newcastle United as academy coach before moving up the ladder to Reserve team coach at St James Park.
He returned north of the border in 2010 to re-join Celtic, this time as first team coach under Neil Lennon. After leaving Celtic in 2012, he joined Birmingham City as development squad coach under Lee Clark.
Speaking after Saturdays game, Lee Clark said: “Alan is a man of great experience, both as a player and as an assistant. He had spells with me at both Birmingham and Blackpool, but was also very successful at Celtic with Neil Lennon.
“He has a great knowledge of the game and, coupled with the staff who are already here, I am looking forward to working with them all. I’ve had an enjoyable first couple of days here.
“Chris Brass will be with us going forward, he is Bury through and through, even though he still has that Geordie accent! He knows the club, he knows the players and he is very helpful in terms of getting things done behind the scenes, but he is also very important pitch side as well.”

Thankfully none of you need to be daft enough to leave nakamura out, since he played on our right. It would be mcgeady you will be leaving out of a team.

Was it really that short a time he spent here as coach?
