2018–19 UEFA Champions League qualification rounds

There's 4 qualifying rounds.

First two rounds should see us up against teams that on paper we're far too strong for, barring an absolute disaster it's manageale even with the ridiculously early start.
Third round will be tricky depending on the draw and if the better seeded teams have successfully come through the first two rounds. There's bound to have been some shocks but it'll be a tough opposition I'd imagine. Lose here, in the third round, and you parachute into the 4th qualifying round of the Europa league.
4th round will be a very hard game, but I think with the Czech champions moving to group stages we will be seeded. Lose here and you go straight into the group stages of the Europa.

Qualification is achievable but it's going to be tough.

The last time a non-Celtic Scottish team lasted beyond the summer in Europe was Oldco almost 10 years ago now.

 

That is quite shocking. I think my biggest problem is that they don't even get to the last qualifying round, that little extra helps. Many of the teams that enter after us have far lower club co-efficient but where you enter is down to league coefficient.
We will also be down Rogic, Lustig and Gamboa as even if they get knocked out early they will want a rest. Fortunately we will be playing some crap like Crusaders or Cork City as we will be seeded. I also think if we have fit strikers with Griff and Edouard then we will tear these teams apart.

 

Thought Aberdeen were gonna do it last summer, looked really decent away to that Bosnian outfit!

No. We would only go straight to the Europa group stage by being knocked out of the Champions League Playoff. Lose in the 3rd round and we go to the playoff of the Europa Champions route.

 

The 2nd round will have some decent teams who could cause us problems - Malmo, Rosenborg, Brondby, Cluj, Red Star Belgrade, Hapoel Beer Sheva. We're capable of beating them all, but they could be tough ties that early in the season.

 

Nope. Not this year. Its a round earlier automatic qaulification.

 

Thing is, like us they dominate their leagues and it is quite a common thing in many of these leagues.

With regards to earlier Europa this year I am guessing there is more space because there is less space in the Champions league

 

That's only for the non-champion route of qualifying. The champion route is the same as before. We go to the next round of the Europa if knocked out.

 

Actually that's true. Some tricky teams here in round two.

Third qualifying round
The third qualifying round is split into two separate sections: Champions Path (for league champions) and League Path (for league non-champions). The losers from the Champions Path enter the 2018-19 uefa Europa league play off round, while the losers from the League Path enter the 2018-19 uefa Europa league group stage.

What if France reach the semi, has Dembele made the squad? I know they have about 10 world class attacking youngsters though so there's a chance he won't.

 

You sure? It doesn't seem fair that the lesser teams go straight into the Group Stage while the Champions have to enter the Play Off round. You'd think it would be the other way round. Especially as Uefa are trying their hardest to make European competition elitist but maybe they want to reduce the chances of an upset.

I find it very confusing. Let's hope we don't have to deal with it.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head around it myself.

Basically the losers in every round of the champions league drop into the europa qualifiers/groups at some stage. They've created something in the europa qualifiers called the champions route.

If we lose in the first qualifying round we drop into the 2nd qualifiying round of the europa.
Lose in round two, we drop into 3rd qualifying round.
Lose in round three, we drop to 4th qualifying round.
Lose in the playoffs we go to group stages.

It's the knock on effect from them letting in 26 of the 32 teams directly into the group stages of the 'champions' league. It's a * joke system. Only a champion should get automatically into the group stages. Not sure things will ever level out again unless a big league or a few big clubs financially die.
