Yes there is a whip system , I would imagine most parliaments have that system, given WM was copied in other countries (seen as the mother of parliaments). I pretty much support it, as I vote on a parties policies and some MP's/MSP's may not share that particular view, so that is when the whip should be enforced in my opinion anyway. However on certain issues MSP's should be free to vote as they see fit. (now struggling to think of an example).

Maybe something like Euthanasia or death penalty?

I don't mind the whip in most cases. * needs to get done.

    Just noticed something.
In Westminster's House of Lords they are unelected apart from the Scots who have to be elected to their position.

the way the polls are looking the snp will have a major say in the next government.
always wondered why wee salmond resigned and took up his seat in Westminster, seems he's played a blinder, calling the shots for the next prime minister of the u.k.

"New Labour" are only "New" because there is no appetite for far left change in the ilk of socialism. Electoral success is important, and they need to appeal to a wide variety of people. Being centre and to the left is what they are. And funnily enough, it is quite a popular stance. To gain electoral success, you need to be relatively neutral - left and right extremes are not popular. If you want far left change, that's what the Scottish Socialist party is for.

Noone is talking about the far far left but the SNP are to the left of Labour and far more in line with Labour traditions- no doubt about that. The popularity of the SNP in Scotland standing a bit to left of Labour with smaller austerity cuts, ending privatisation of NHS, higher minimum wage, no student fees, more free elderly care, more free nursery care, no trident, no fracking, land reform, gender balanced cabinets, abolition of the Lords etc shows that Labour is too centrist for Scottish Labour tastes and they have tailored their policies for the mentality of middle England's swing seats not Scotland where echos of more traditional Labour policies are popular albeit in a modern spin -noone wants a return the old style central controlled * up economy of the 70s. Labour have tried one times too many to pull the trick of appealing to middle England swing seats and hoping the more traditional Scottish Labour types will close their eyes and pretend Labour are still Labour. At least the Tories, although I hate them, are transparent. Labour are just spin merchants.

It isnt working though because Labour are still only get 30-35pc in polls and they seem to have the most muddled lack of vision at the moment. Noone really knows what the * Labour are for now - they just seem to be a lite version of the Tories and its impossible to be passionate about anything as vanilla as them. Its the sort of thing that is killing politics and is the direct result of the totally undemocratic FPTP system which drives parties to be so vanilla rather than popular demand IMO. It needs to go. If you could vote who you wanted for in a proportional representation or similar system I doubt even half the population would vote for the big 2. Its a cartel where both parties want power for the sake of it.

Scottish Labour has unveiled a plan to end the need for food banks, as figures show more than 60 children a day are relying on food hand-outs.
Party leader Jim Murphy has made an election pledge to establish a £175m anti-poverty fund in Scotland, claiming Labour is "the only party of social justice".
Figures show that in 2013/14, 22,387 children used food banks in Scotland, equating to at least 61 youngsters a day, the party said.
More than 3000 Scots children had to use food banks in December last year alone.
