Yeah I'm going for Argentina too.... purely so Messi will have a world cup winners medal and can put it beyond doubt that he's the greatest player ever seen.

I think Germany will win it, they have a good attack but also good defence for when playing the other top teams. The most well rounded team, don't know who I want to win it depends who starts playing well in the tournament.

Think Portugal are an outside shout. Decent squad and they have Ronaldo!

I want Chile to win, but I am expecting it to be either Germany or Argentina. Probably the Germans - they know how to come together for tournament football.

I remember someone recently saying it was really a myth about South American teams always winning it in their own country. Basically ripped apart how it happened like certain World Cups some big teams never played in, think one of them maybe Uruguay cheated to win it by paying off refs or something and all kinds of stuff.

Think it was Gabriele Marcotti on a podcast that was saying it. The last World Cup in South America(ish) was almost 30 year ago aswell, football has changed a lot since then with players used to playing Worldwide.

Want Chile to win but think they'll lose in the semi's to Argentina who will go into a Brazil x Argentina final, which Brazil will win. You seen it here first :icon_mrgreen:

    It's Uruguay's cup to lose.

Belgium as dark horse for me. Very little pressure on them as they are outsiders, but they have a smashing wee squad

Argentina and Germany final. Brazil will fall short when they come up against the likes of those two France and Spain.

Not a lot of mention for France on the lead upto the World Cup but they have the best side they have had since France 98 imo.

I havent seen much of France for a while. Not sure how strong they are.

Nasri has been in very good form this season and Ribery is obviously going to be good. Matuidi as well and Benzema is a decent striker. Not sure about them at the back though or what other midfielders they have. Lloris is a dodgy keeper for me too.

Will bet on Portugal like always so I picked them. They're not just a one man team, Moutinho's a beast, Pepe and Bruno Alves were class together at the last Euro's, Coentrao, Pereira, Veloso etc, I think they have the potential to go all the way.

They've reached at least the semi-finals in 4 of the last 5 tournaments as well, with a last-16 loss to Spain in South Africa being the only other time.

    They should bring Quaresma back.

I am going with Germany. So much quality and they really have been knocking on the door over the last couple of finals so I think they will go all the way this time.

Uruguay have won two World Cups (but, oddly enough, only one World Cup Final) and I don't believe there was really any question of cheating in either one. To win in 1950, they had to beat Brazil in the final game in the Maracana, which they did, 2-1.

You are perhaps thinking of Argentina's progress to the 1978 final from the second group stage, which they did by beating Peru 6-0 and thus went through ahead of Brazil on goal difference.

As for the myth about teams winning it in their own country, I don't know where that comes from. Uruguay won it on their own soil in 1930 and then in Brazil in 1950. Brazil won it in Chile in 1962 then Argentina won it on home territory in 1978.

Alongside Spain, Brazil are the only other World Cup winner not to have won it in their own country (for the record, Uruguay, Italy, England, Germany, Argentina and France all have).

Germany have the players to do it. The manager just isn't smart enough.
