seriously do you think this would be allowed if it was celebrating a religious war won against muslims that attracted crowds shouting * mohammed and simlar slogans? thats not meant as anti-muslim at all by the way just pointing out that that religion seems to be protected from anything that might cause offence and to be quite frank in this example i don't think anyone could argue that you should be allowed to do it, why is the battle of the boyne different?

i can kinda see where that tourism bloke is coming from if you look at it on paper. being honest theres few things as impressive as massed bands marching through city streets playing their music. when you add in the history involved, the sentiment and lyrics and the drunken knuckledraggers alongside it though surely this is not what we should be using to promote our city/country. glasgow green already hosts the world pipe band championships, why not make more of a deal of that? the finals are i believe on the sunday, you could have bands playing in various places throughout the city for the week, george square, st.enoch square, royal exchange square, buchanon street, argyle street etc then on the saturday have a massed march through the city culminating at glasgow green. if its a tourist spectacle that glasgow is after involving marching bands then surely this is a better option. 1. its actually scottish, not irish 2. it isn't insular, sure some people don't like the pipes but it isn't overtly offensive to a huge section of the community 3. it has a far wider appeal, ask people outwith scotland/ireland and you will find very few who have even heard of the orange walk. therefore promoting it as a tourist event will merely atract more bigots whereas bagpipes are universally recognised and if promoted properly could attract massive ex-pat interest.

We always moan about these sub human aresholes but we should be more pro active in putting pressure on councils etc to stop them * crossing the road never mind marching.Lets bombard Newspapers tv even the police with complaints about them spewing ,pishing in the street (200 fined yesterday)abusing chapels.
Their g master said he was happy to see more family groups on the parades"poor * kids brain washed before they are old enough to have a choice"

never happen in Scotland but I could see it happening in Ulster. There has already been an attempt to turn the apprentice boys match in Derry into a more general mardi gras and I understand that it has actually made the day a lot less scary to catholics. But in Scotland all this stuff is pn a tiny scale compared to Ireland.
