Just saw this vid this morning and nearly brought tears. This wee guy Quaden Bayles, age 9, in Australia threatens to kill himself because of the constant bullying at school for being Aboriginal and having dwarfism. We need to educate our own kids about acceptance of all people. Starting with the elderly as I feel they have a generation who have a lack of respect for their elders. People of different race, religion or people with disabilities. Education from a young age is the best prevention. First 2-3 mins of the video is the main message.

BBC news report of how it’s went viral.

Think the mums at her wits end at what to do. I initially had the same thought but she has provoked a world wide reaction with this and everything for a reason. She has put pressure right on the doorstep of education authorities and the school who always like to make an anti bullying stance but when it’s reported they hide behind closed doors.

fair * for watching that mate!! These pictures are bad enough! Placed is * and i have no answers. Whether it's worse now than in the past or just highlighted more now i have no notion either. I do think however when both my daughters come out of young Primary classes now and in the past and tell me half their classmates are running about about boasting they've got COD on their Xbox and have mummy and daddys old iphone i * despair!!!

ps- and while i'm at it teachers are there for teaching and * teaching only. The amount of * they have to get involved in these days because of obviously horrendous parenting makes my * boil!!...and i'm not just talking about under priveleged areas either. I've seen evidence to the contrary.

I agree about the * that teachers get loaded onto them but I have wittnessed personally their nonchalant attitude when it comes to visiting the heads office with questIons and concerns. Luckily my kids were always able and only reacted when situations got out of hand. My daughter let the school bully in secondary school pick on her for months before singling her out in front of her mates and making mince meat of the bully. My kids would be quicker to take a bullied person under their wing. I blame the education authorities who need to employ extra staff specialising in this field. Don’t leave it up to the teachers. I also know that when we visited the school the head made it clear that they feared some parents of problem children. Therefore the bully’s being brought up by bullies. Everyone knows their own kids and to deflect doesn’t help the problem kids.

Respect, compassion and humility are all taught at home.

People always say 'children can be cruel' but that's learned behaviour from parents/guardians and society in general.

The sitting UK prime minister compared Muslim women wearing the hijab to post boxes.

The sitting US president mocked a disabled reporter that asked a sincere question by moving his arms...

When such high profile people send out the message that it's alright to bully individuals for differences without any repercussion, it's no wonder why it's so rife in society.

"A true measure of any society can be found in how it treats it's most vulnerable members"

Agree with a lot of what you say mate. I've a lot and i mean a lot of teachers in the family and at one time toyed with it myself but with my threshold i probably would have been lucky to see out a week! Like any profession there are good and bad though. My kids are the same with regards to bullies and would probably be the first to feel sorry for them if they got a taste of their own. Problem is that i think this again is perceived as weakness even though we know it's quite the opposite. This is where my wife and i maybe slightly disagree, only slightly. Maybe it's i a blokey thing, i don't know, but i've always told my kids if they get any then give it back with interest. The wife's more of a go and tell but then you hit that nonchalant attitude you mention from * off members of staff on playground duty. I don't want to toughen my kids up but it's hard out there.

Only example we had i can recall was when my eldest was in Primary and she mentioned a couple of times that a couple of so called mates were getting a couple of sly digs/elbows in playground sometimes. We made an appointment with the head and i told her i know you can't advocate this but if it continues she's getting told by me to give it back with interest and if it happens (which it didn't) don't scold her but phone me straight away because i told her. To my astonishment she agreed. She was old school and an excellent head (badly missed when she retired by the way) and ran a tight ship. Maybe helped that she knew my wife's family and taught her too.

Bottom line-respect etc should be taught in the home but the problem now is you've got generations in the same families that couldn't spell the word!!

    Yep it's all Trump's fault :giggle1:

As far as the story and thoughts on how to solve problems like this I genuinely have no idea. It's a natural instinct for kids to put others down.. it's jostling for social positioning.

Like I said mate it's all Trump's fault.

Anyway, we won't derail the thread. Hopefully the fact this has gone viral will at the very least ease the pain this poor kid is feeling. Hopefully it opens the bullies' eyes to the pain they've been causing.

    Heart wrenching stuff.

Some kids can be right wee *.

Hope the kids involved see this when they are older.

I really hope so bud but with age my faith is getting worn. Social Media for me put the tin lid on it!! We're all becoming too desensitised, probably most of us without knowing it.

I did. You believe Trump is a leading factor in an Aboriginal dwarf child in australia being bullied.

Mate...you really did not need to go further than the first 2 lines imo!! The rest of also happens to be true by the way and for me just mentions some of the causes for these problems. The examples given of these 2 arseholes with their behaviour and rhetoric are perfect!!!

That was a hard watch. I’m not sure what I would do in that parents situation but it would be incredibly difficult to see your kid in that state, saying those things, and not take it out on everyone around you.

Hope to see a video of this guy in 20 years time having made something brilliant of his life, and in a much happier place.
