People say this all the time but it makes no sense.

If he didn’t come off the bench that night he would have had the exact same career path as he has, or potentially even worse as less clubs would have taken a chance on him.

The goal enhanced his profile, he’s just a very average footballer.

Might be good for him, Robinson strikes me as the type who won't put up with his *. He needs a manager that will put him in his place. Be interesting to see how it pans out.

He wasn’t average at 18, he just didn’t have the mental strength or workrate to make the most of his ability.

To say it doesn't make any sense is a bit of a stretch.

Goal creates hype, he believes said hype, all of a sudden believes he's made it and doesn't need to work as hard, disrespects managers because he's "Tony Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

If he had never scored that goal and had a slower development maybe he'd be leading the line for Celtic today, who knows. Maybe the goal had no effect on his development and he was never going to be any better than a Motherwell. We'll never know but to say the theory makes absolutely no sense is nonsense itself.

I disagree with that. He had an unbelievable platform to build himself a career after that goal.

I remember him getting subbed on at Fir Park and running amok, scored a goal, set up another. They couldn't live with his direct, powerful running.

18 years old with a brilliant chance and he's made a complete mess of it. 8 years and 10 clubs later and he's having to trial for SPFL clubs to win deals.

Scored two at fir park, was unreal that day. He just let the hype get to his head.

I don't think the Barca goal would have changed a thing. He'd still have had the same attitude and mentality.

He obviously tried hard as * in training to even get into the celtic senior team let alone aloud to play against Barca when up 1-0. That goal made him think hes made it and relax. Although you could argue that goal put too much pressure on him and some people cant deal with that.

Bet it bagged him some amount of lassies though :fear:

Those saying the Barca goal ruined him are taking a wild shot in the dark with that assumption. They dont know Tony Watt personally and to say his downfall was all to do with him becoming big headed about scoring a goal against Barca is unfounded. Tony Watt is just being Tony Watt, he was never going to be a superstar, goal or no goal against Barca.

Imagine he never got that goal. Before that he was obviously working hard as * for a spot in the team. A youth player doesnt get a chance without hard work. After the goal suddenly he got a new contract, and suddenly didnt work as hard and never has since. * him.

Dont buy that for a minute. If that was the case he would have regained his 'hard work' by now and shown that he is indeed the superstar you claim he would have been had he not scored the goal against Barca. The guy has decent attributes but hes simply not a top quality player regardless of whether he scored a goal against Barca or not.

He admitted in his Open Goal interview that he was known as a poor trainer, when he was at Celtic.

He was a few years above me in school, he had a horrible attitude before celtic. Even in the school team he was known as having a bad attitude and refused to play at times when things didn't go his way. The Barcelona goal definitely made him worse but the attitude was there before it.

If he hadn’t if scored v Barca he would have still went down the same career path I reckon, thought he would become a absolute player back then.

Starting tonight, good luck to him.
