The Salt'n'Sauce thing is from Edinburgh , and some areas close to Edinburgh . You'll not be offered this option in other East coast Chip shops . I think the brown sauce that's used is quite runny because it contains a fair amount of vinegar . I think it works OK with certain stuff , but I'm far more likely to have salt and vinegar . But remember the tip to wait until you get home ( if possible ) before you apply anything other than salt . it prevents soggy chips etc . Just typing this is making my mouth water .

Think every chippy in Scotland does brown sauce, do they not ? All Central Scotland anyway.

First had it in Falkirk but always get it wherever we go.

Aye but it’s different from the proper chippy sauce you get in Edinburgh and surrounding area chippies.

What's different about it ? Think I've only ever been to one chippy in Edinburgh and only got a battered mars bar. Didn't fancy brown sauce on it.

Just a slightly different recipe, my chippy back home makes their own and sells it in glass Barr’s bottles. Always bring a bottle down the road with us, love it.

Pop into bookers cash n carry and you see the chippy sauce they all buy but they must mix it because it's never in those huge tubs after. Also the chips all the chinese restaurants buy. Too scared to buy them. There chilled part cooked but eating a whole box would be silly :56:

Sure the chippy on Laurieston main street in Falkirk must be the same.

Been years since I've been through there for one though. I need to refresh my memory to see which is better.

There are chip shops all over that don't do sauce as a choice of seasoning . If you want sauce , they have developed the profiteering scam of selling you a sachet ( in some cases a whole bottle ) . In Edinburgh/areas around Edinburgh , they ask you when you're getting served ; " salt and sauce sir ? ". No mention what sauce it is , and no mention of vinegar . That's unique to that area of Scotland in my experience .

Why cant folk just have salt and vinegar and sauce? Why do they need to choose 1 or the other?

What do you mean "east coast chippy sauce"?

That's the way the chippees in Gkasgow have done Brown aauce for years...

The other trick, if you've not got far to travel home. Open the chippy paper a wee touch to let the steam out, but not enough to let the food go cold

Its actually quite good. Its a good accompaniment to other east coast delicacies, like * football teams and heroin.

    Salt & vinegar.

If you must have anything else, gravy is acceptable.
