He doesn't deserve a new deal in the slightest, i'd be shocked if Jozo wants to stay too as third choice, hopefully he realizes that and leaves or buckles down.

JOZO SIMUNOVIC is set to hold talks with Celtic over his future.

The Croat stopper has six months left on his deal, with the Hoops having an option for 12 more months.

Simunovic, 25, is focused on returning to full fitness after knee surgery, and played his third game in a week against Ross County.

He said: “This is my last year. We’ve arranged a meeting to talk. We’ll discuss it for sure, but it’s a not a problem for me right now.

“I just want to be ready to play, and we have a lot of games left so I believe my chance will come.”

Celts boss Neil Lennon admits he wants to keep Simunovic for the long haul.

He said: “I am pleased to see Jozo back after a time out. He did great for me at the tail end of last season.

“I’d like to keep him, I think he is a top player.

He is pretty consistent when he plays, and his best years are ahead of him.

“Jozo has a record of knee problems and that is unfortunate for him. But he manages it as best he can, and when he plays he is a consistent performer.”

Simunovic made his return against Partick Thistle last weekend then faced Kilmarnock last Wednesday.

It was a rare sight of him on a plastic pitch, but the defender asked Lennon to use him at Rugby Park.

It was a rare sight of him on a plastic pitch, but the defender asked Lennon to use him at Rugby Park.

Simunovic added: “It was a good test, and everything was fine after the game. I hadn’t played on plastic since a game against Hamilton a few seasons ago, so psychologically it was a big thing for me.

“But I’ve been out for months so I was desperate to play. I’d have played on concrete if I had to!

“I had a good conversation with the manager before the game and told him I wanted to play.”

Simunovic barely featured towards the end of the Brendan Rodgers’ reign, but feels more trust from Lennon.

He said: “At the end with Brendan it was a different story. But what can you do? I’m Celtic’s player, not Brendan’s player.

So I just kept going and I was kind of expecting a time would come that Brendan would go.

“But now it’s a new page for me with a new manager, and I’m not thinking about Brendan’s era.

“All you can do is be ready because you never know when the chance will come.”

Didn't realize he only had 6 months left, i'd take the option of a further 12 months and sell him, but the last time we done that it didn't exactly go well for either party.

I'd extend his contract as this summer money needs to go to a keeper, midfielders and striker. We have few options at cb.

Obviously Lenny rates him but, for me he’s too unreliable - injury wise, and is prone to making rash tackles, and posted missing in the defence regularly due to switching off.

If I was the manager he’d have to seek pastures new.

But I’m not so.......fill in the blanks!

Sign him up for another 12 months and get rid of him in the Summer .
He spends more time on the treatment table than Sean Maloney did .

Instead of extending his contract, why not get rid and get a new CB in, you know one that is actually fit and isn't a * bombscare ! :31::31:

So an injury to Ajer or Jullien and we’re throwing Steven Welsh into the lineup..

    Get a CB in.

That's the kinda time you want young guys stepping up.

Personally? I'd have gave Welsh a shot lomg before now, amd certainly before I played plook-face.

Don't like the idea of extending his contract to profit from it, think it's already been mentioned that didn't work out too well with Sinclair.

He's far too fragile and the fact he was avoiding plastic pitches in a league with a few of them is a huge problem for us.

Just let him go and get someone with a better history of fitness. Plus check our physio set up to make sure the problem isn't deeper than the players themselves.
