TV watchdog Ofcom received a whopping 230 complaints from viewers over Kris Boyd's criticism of Leigh Griffiths.

Griffiths 'shushed' Boyd after scoring for Celtic against Kilmarnock in response to the former Rangers striker previously claiming he had four weeks to save his Hoops career.

Boyd upped the ante while working as a pundit for Sky Sports, questioning Griffiths' commitment to Celtic, citing a stat claiming that he played just 34 games from a possible 135 under both Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon. He claimed that showed a lack of dedication from the forward.
However, the 36-year-old failed to factor in Griffiths' off-field troubles and his battles with inner demons and depression which derailed his playing career for more than seven months.

Ex-Kilmarnock star Boyd was the subject of furious backlash on social media regarding his flippant comments. But viewers did more than simply moan on Twitter - with 230 people lodging official complaints with Ofcom.

A spokesperson for the broadcast body confirmed they had been inundated with objections. A spokesperson for Ofcom said: "We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, before deciding whether or not to investigate."

We told how Celtic complained to Sky Sports to demand clarification on Boyd's statements.

 

Hope that * boyd gets his jotters. Absolutely hopeless pundit and thick as mince.

Never want to see that * on TV or hear him on the radio again, I can take honest pundits even if they are Huns but that moron cuts to the quick.

You're a * Boyd, as a pundit you've gloated and basked in any defeat Celtic has taken and stuck the boot in at every chance. With Griffiths you crossed a line and can't even hold your hands up.

* should be firmly banned from Celtic Park from now on.
