'1917'. Outstanding in so many ways! Surely they've stopped taking bets on the winner of the Best Cinematography Oscar!

If you're going to see it, then try and watch 'They Will Not Grow Old' first (documentary film directed by Peter Jackson - it follows WW1 soldiers from their journey to the Front Lines - the archive footage has been digitally restored, sound effects and dialogue added, and the film is colourised once they hit the trenches). If you do watch this, then you'll see that the visuals in '1917' are just about spot on. If anything, I'd say the real footage is even more horrifying than the situation portrayed in the Mendes movie.

    10/10

    Jojo Rabbit. 8/10.

A film set during a war, but it doesn’t in any way feel like a war film. It’s actually really funny and creative. Really enjoyed it!

This definitely holds up to repeat viewings. The writing is there, the characters are there, the performances are there. Colin Farell steals every scene he is in, as does Hugh Grant, but that does not take away from anyone else in this, all of whom it really seems like they would have had an absolute ball making this movie. Wouldn't be surprised if I catch this again before it leaves the cinema.

Oh dear. Wow! Everything you've probably heard is true. I'm glad I couldn't see the screen properly, because the aural assault is bad enough. Why anyone thought that this was the musical worth resurrecting and being given the big screen treatment, I can't begin to fathom. :99:

Tom Hooper seriously needs to be checked into NA or a rehab clinic or something, because an excessive use of non-prescription drugs is the only possible explaination for his thinking that so many bad ideas were in fact good ones, not to mention whoever the exec at Universal greenlit this project should have recieved his P45 in the mail by now. :40:

It would be impossible to count the number of long sad audible sighs and eyerolls that this film induced. The irony of Ian McKellen singing a song about a once fabled star now reduced to his current situation was not lost either, amid every failed attempt at humour and every lacklustre cameo. The whole thing was just sad; a career low watermark for everyone involved in it.

Some stats from the screening I was in:

Number of people in the audience: 22.
    Number of walkouts: 16.
Number that lasted the distance: 6.

I intentionally went to an evening session so there would be more people there than a daytime screening, and know this because the AD in the screen it was shown in only works down near the entrance, so literally everyone who left had to pass right by me, so I was keeping count. There was a cheer when it was finally over, and a cry of "we made it!" from someone at the back of the theatre, and overheard 2 people sitting in the row behind me commenting there were only 6 people in the theatre at that point.

For anyone looking for a thriller Rust Creek on Sky Movies is worth a watch.

Basically a lassie on her way to a job interview in another city, gets lost & takes a wrong turn ending up in a small hillbilly like town.

I went into it not expecting much from it but it was actually an enjoyable watch - good chemistry between the main 2 characters.

Saw 1917 last week and thought it was pretty good, not sure I preferred it to Saving Private Ryan but it was decent all the same. Living and fighting in the trenches must have been * horrendous, such a waste of life.

Watched the Lighthouse recently as well which I enjoyed. First film with Robert Pattinson I've seen that was decent, was actually pretty good in it. Creepy film, if you had claustrophobia I'd say it would be nightmarish.

Will check it out. Sounds like wrong turn. Sure that started like that with the guy late for an interview.

Not really a horror though, more a survival thriller.

All good... apart from Big Tam's attempt at an Irish accent. To be fair though, it makes a change from actors butchering a Scottish one!

watched 1917 a few nights back, gotta say i must be the only one who found it really slow and boring as everyone else seems to be raving about it, must just be me I guess. Still to watchn Jojo Rabbit might check it out later tonight when I can't sleep

Really enjoyed this. Some great comedic moments and also real drama/pathos. Only went because rest of family wanted to see it, but would recommend it to anyone!
