Nakamura did/does speak English, it was confirmed by McNamara and others.

For the first few seasons, at least, he didn’t though.

Signed in 2005 and was quoted saying he was going to start taking English lessons in 2007.

At that stage he’d already helped us win 2 titles without speaking English.

Point is it shouldn’t really be that big of an issue.

Strachan and a few players confirmed he spoke perfect English after his first season. He just didn’t want to do press duties or speak to media.

I think that is an overreaction.

He has been living in Scotland for less than a year, and English and Ukrainian are much more distant relatives than English and French, for example.

On the field, he only needs to know a few basic commands. Off the field, he presumably has an interpreter.

Of course, learning English will help him to integrate, but other players have enjoyed great success without speaking the language of the country in which they reside (see Bale).

Language shouldn't be an issue. Football has its own language

Good comments from Lenny tho, get this boy in the team ASAP.

I hope so I have had a good feeling about him and I am disappointed he hasn’t had a proper chance yet!

He’s scored against better teams than there are in Scotland for a worse team than he’s now in. He has the ability to make a proper mark and his opportunity is hopefully coming soon.

It was one of the open goal interviews I heard it on, just forgetting the name then.

    Fair enough mate, good points.

Although if I moved to a foreign country and had signed up for 4/5 years I know I'd be making an effort to learn the language. Don't understand why anyone in that situation would chose not to.

"* sake Chistie" should be one of his first few phrases as well.

I'm still excited to see him, both him and Arzani have had very very limited time in a Celtic shirt, mainly due to injuries of course, but both showed to me they have something different from Forrest that we should be using. Something more like that of Roberts, who I still want back.

For me though, time has taken forever for both and would seem like neither is gonna cut it due to outside circumstances and if that is the case, we need to move them on. But I would rather see Shved get his real chance! As others have said, some times it does just take awhile to settle in - I hope if thats the case the lad understands that in himself and is working hard on himself and not being too down and giving up. Lennon comments are positive, surely see him soon again.

Down side - both Shved and Arzani are going to be back fighting for a place against Forrest (I say down side purely because we can't play all 3)

Yeah, the difference is Bale had Modrić, Ronaldo, Kroos, Courtois etc who have a good command of English... don’t think we’re blessed with Ukrainian speakers in our team

Me neither, but I assume that he is just struggling with the language, rather than failing to make an effort, if it is true.
