Considering his record it’s not an exciting signing but Hammond has yet to sign a bad player.

Wasn’t overly excited when I saw his record but obviously our scouts, who done really well in the summer, have seen something in the lad, so I’ll trust their judgment on it.

As with any new signings I’m excited to see him play for us and see what he can bring to the table with a better quality of player around him.

Hopefully he doesn’t take too long to settle like Bayo and Shved have done.

CELTIC will finalise a £3.5million deal for Poland U-21 striker Patryk Klimala within the next 24 hours.

SunSport understands Celts have agreed to meet Jagiellonia Białystok’s asking price for the 21-year-old.

Klimala has verbally accepted a contract offer to sign for Neil Lennon and flew into Glasgow tonight.

And barring any unexpected hitches with his medical, which he should undergo on Monday, he’s likely to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal until the summer of 2024.


Gaffer Lennon’s interest in Klimala emerged in recent days during the club’s week-long winter training camp in Dubai.

The pacy attacker still has 18 months to run on his contract with his club in Poland.
Celtic’s Europa League rivals Copenhagen had also targeted the forward.

But it’s understood the Scottish champions have now triggered the release clause in his deal.

Klimala has scored seven goals in 17 appearances in the Polish league this season.


Lennon believes he could play as a second striker alongside Odsonne Edouard.

Celts had been heavily linked with a move for Slovan Bratislava hitman Andraz Sporar.

But Klimala emerged as his top target and the youngster now looks set to become Celtic’s first January signing.

In an interview last week, Klimala warned he wants to be the main man at Celtic and isn’t
interested in playing back-up to Edouard.

He said: “First of all, I don’t want to be the fourth choice — only the first choice.

“I want to develop, so I will also choose a league that will give me that.


If someone wants me and it is a good option, then I will go and fight for my own place.

“I don’t know what will result, but the talks will definitely start in January.

“From what I know — and I don’t know much — there were teams from Italy and Denmark.

“My manager is to call me only when there are specific offers on the table for me.”

Former Celtic star Maciej Zurawski also told SunSport that Klimala has the potential to become the successor to Poland icon Robert Lewandowski.

He said: “I have watched Patryk play a few times this season and I have been hugely impressed with what I saw.

“He is not the finished article yet, but he is a massive talent.

“He is lightning fast, which you need to be as a top striker, and he is strong on the ball.“He is the one player everybody is talking about in Poland.

“I think most people expect him to be the striker who replaces Lewandowski in the national team.

“That won’t happen just now, because Lewandowski is still one of the best players in the world.

“It will be very hard for him to start for Poland at the moment.

“But there is no reason why he won’t in the future if he keeps improving at the rate he is just now.”
