TBH, I doubt the Board has that much to do with it, if anything at all.

The main source of the club being linked to any given player is far more often that not, agents. Or in the case of Sevco, Jabba's imagination. But talking about Celtic, it is the agents and their clients that have the most to gain from this, not the club.

John Collins talked about this, regarding recruitment of players from during his tenure as RD's assistant manager, who in one particular interview on BBC 5Live at the beginning of last seaosn, name checked a number of agents and referenced a number of players who were supposedly linked to Celtic that noone in the backroom had ever heard of or those that had, many were never specifically scouted, much less any discussion was ever held about any of those players, all of which would preceed any potential signing. And even how on a couple of occasions as soon as Celtic did actually enquire about the potential availability of such and such a player, that literally the next day that player was being shopped around to other clubs.

Agents will name check Celtic, making it known of our interest, or even if that doesn't exist, linking our club to their players anyhow, because Celtic have earned a reputation where players have been developed before moving on, such as Ki, Wanyama, VVD, Dembele, et al. This reputation is well earned and because of this it is well respected, but it is also a double edged sword, as a link to Celtic is attractive to agents looking to put their players in the shop window of the transfer market.

If other clubs are lead to believe that Celtic are interested, that puts these players on the radar for other clubs who, more often than not, can afford more, and therefore offer more than Celtic will likely offer. So if Celtic does make an approach to enquire about a player, the agent can then use that to help shop their players around to potential other suitors also, in order to get the best deal they can. The bigger the offer, the bigger the agent's commission and that is often the main priority of many agents.

Football agency is not exactly scrupulous with ethics, to simply link Celtic to their player without any actual connect having taken place. It doesnt take a lot for an agent to whisper 'Celtic' to any hack in the 'meeja', and thus a transfer rumour is born.

Of course there is also those occasions where Celtic does approach another club about the potential availability of a player or a transfer fee, that the selling club has been known to let slip to other suitors that Celtic are interested in that player, in the hope that they can maximize the deal to their benefit, because once the player is off their books the only thing that they are interested in is whay price can be attained. And Celtic, as a selling club, is no different in this regard, as seen by the inclusion of sell-on clauses etc as well.

The agent wins, the hack wins, as they have a story to tell without ever bothering to fact check, and our club has a well established practice of not commenting about prospective signings, so therefore are not going to comment even if a journalist does ask the question, so they are free to write what they want essentially.

Don't think any of us can believe Lennon or Celtic as a whole when they say what they expect with transfers. Summer window was a * joke for contradicting himself and never getting what he suggested is the case.

Sporting Manager confirming the guy is quality and it’s a viable option for him to them apparently!

I would close thread have a feeling we missed the boat on this one!

someone is accountable for these failings again in the transfer market! How the * can you meet with their rep in London steal a march on everyone looking at him and fail to follow it up!

    baffling!!!!!

Cheaper option and value for money , I would put us in the value for money category , we would possibly go for a player who costs more but has more qualities and is worth wot is being asked were as a player at 4 mill maybe over valued by the club so we would move on from this .

Sounds like we moved on to other targets after that round of talks.

    ... Or we're just inept.

You dont advertise the fact that a player is quality and an.option before you buy , to many sharks in the water for that , so sounds like agents promoting .

Pretty simple, the agent would of known a few clubs were interested, so shop him around and see who will offer bigger wages and meet the asking price. He’ll get better wages at Sporting and play in a better league, main pull we have is European football and a route to the EPL.

Twenty-five-year-old Šporar is in Slovan for the third year, but it is quite possible that the author of last year's 29 and this year's twelve goals will not add another start in the Bratislava jersey. For some time around him circling Celtic Glasgow and now joined other interested parties - such as Benfika Lisbon. "We have also received an offer from the Arab world and other countries," said Ivan Kmotrík jr.

It seems that the best shooter of the current Slovak competition will change the jersey already in winter. "It is possible that Andraz will stay, but the offers are already at a level that would be interesting for the club," added Kmotrík to the Slovenian cannonist, who was previously interested in Prague Sparta.

The most expensive player who has left Slovakia so far is Milan Škriniar, who in 2016 transferred for six million euros from Žilina to Sampdoria, from where he headed to Inter Milan.

Sporar, however, should exceed this amount, in Slovakia talks about seven to eight million euros. "I do not want to specify anything, but if the transfer is completed, Šporar will certainly be the most expensive transfer from Slovakia," Kmotrík confirmed.

£5m on him £4m on the Pole...nae chance.

Would prefer him if it's a choice purely to experience. But I feel our interest has wavered.
