Elyounoussi caused anxiety when he was sent home by the Norwegian national team with an injury last week – especially with a League Cup Final against Rangers coming up on 8 December.

However, he has revealed that it’s a small knock on his foot. He is a doubt for Livingston on Saturday and might not be risked but should be ready for Rennes in the Europa League next week.

The 25-year-old, who moved to Saints from Basel last year for £16million, said: “I actually picked up the injury a couple of weeks ago against Hibs in the League Cup semi-final.
Then I had to go with the national team and it didn’t really have enough time to heal.

“So we had a look at it and it was decided I needed a rest. But I think it will be alright.

“The League Cup Final is a chance to win some silverware early in the season and I can’t wait for this game.

“I watched the first Old Firm game of the season and the atmosphere was amazing.

“It’s something I really want to experience so I’m really looking forward to this game.”

NEW Celtic hero Mo Elyounoussi has revealed that Stuart Armstrong helped him decide to join the Hoops on loan.

The irony is that it seemed Armstrong couldn’t wait to get out of Parkhead and move to the Premier League.

He constantly stalled on a new Hoops deal and moved to Southampton for around £7million in the summer of 2018.

However, the Scotland star was gushing in his praise for his old club as he and Elyounoussi sat next to each other at the club’s Staplewood training base.

Elyounoussi also got advice from his Norway team-mate Kris Ajer and Fraser Forster — and he’s so glad he has made the switch.

Seven goals and five assists landed the Norwegian the Ladbrokes Player of the Month for October. And he said: “Stuart told me so many good things about Celtic.

“I had also spoken with Kris Ajer so I had a good knowledge of what I was coming into. I didn’t look at it as a step down. I needed to get minutes on the pitch.

“I feel Celtic have brought my confidence back. I am scoring goals and I’m really happy. I know the quality I have and I think the manager knows that as well.

“So with his belief and trust in me and the help of the coaches too, I feel I am bringing what I can to the team.”

Elyounoussi was sent home by the Norwegian national team with an injury last week. But he has revealed that it’s only a small knock on his foot.

He is a doubt for Livingston on Saturday but should be ready for Rennes in the Europa League next week.

The 25-year-old, who moved to Saints from Basel last year for £16million, said: “I actually picked up the injury against Hibs in the Betfred Cup semi-final.

“Then I had to go with the national team and it didn’t really have enough time to heal.

So we had a look at it and it was decided I needed a rest. But I think it will be all right.”

Of course, Scotland could meet Norway in a winner-takes-all showdown for a place at Euro 2020, with Ajer and Elyounoussi on one side and Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Ryan Christie on the other.

He added: “It would be amazing. We have already been talking about that among the boys at Celtic.

"But we need to beat Serbia first in our semi-final then see what happens.”

Begs the question, why was he allowed- by our medical team- to go to Norway whilst injured, really reckon we need to harden up on this front.

International team can still call them and do their own assessment on an injury if they wish.

    Nah.

Wait until the end of the season when Southampton have been relegated. Agree a transfer deal with them, call him in for contract negotiations.

Slide the contract across the table, face down. He flips it over, it just says, ‘There is no old firm.’

Then have security escort him out.

We need standards at this club.

That is a relief that his injury is nothing serious. Has really become such an important player for us already.

Glad his injury isn't as bad as the rumours suggested.

See Southampton supporters happy to get rid of him permanently. A lot saying they'd take £5m for him on twitter.

    Bargain at that price.

Guys like Elyounoussi even Stuart Armstrong games rely on getting plenty of the ball- playing well- scoring goals- winning and building their confidence
Which will always happen when you play for the best team in the country

At a bottom epl team that have been on the end 0-9 hidings - this doesn’t happen

This is the part that * me off. Cause everyone knows we can afford that type of money. £16m is at the higher part of our price range but we can afford it. Mo has already proved his worth and he's only 25. Barring a horrific career ending injury which could happen to any player, there is no risk in spending this type of money on a player of his quality.

One and a half seasons left to push to get the ten. We should be pulling out all the stops and throwing everything at it. Tying this man down for a reasonable fee by today's standards should be only part of throwing everything at it

Think it's more the wages than the fee that would be the stumbling block. No risk recouping that money in couple seasons if he keeps playing the way he is. Also I think this needs to be done in January, he's in the shop window big time and Southampton will only receive more offers from bigger leagues in the summer.

That's our top 2 transfer fees combined. Hardly at the top of our price range.

He's a fantastic player and has been a revelation for us but I'm not sure it would be the wisest way to spend £16 million. Nor do I think Pedro would stump up that sort of cash. He did it with Eddie as he knew it was a stonewall certainty we'd be recouping multiples of the fee after a few seasons. Next summer he will be approaching 26 and would have a underwhelming spell at Southampton chalked up on his CV, there's not as much certainty that we'd recoup our outlay after 2/3 years.

If the price falls down into 7 figures then it's much more likely, particularly if we get huge money for Edouard next summer.

Although it would still all come down to whether he was willing to take a drop in wages, he'll be on £50k+ per week at Southampton. At a push I think we'd go to £40k for an exceptional player.

We don’t really know the numbers but fundamentally I would say Elyounoussi would need to drop down to whatever’s the likes of McGregor, Edouard and Sinclair are on, whatever that may be.

If he doesn’t want that we can’t really go much higher because you’ll have plenty of players agents at the door.

I don’t think it’s mega unrealistic that he would drop if the choice is between us and a potentially relegated Southampton. The problem will be if other clubs start to come in. I could definitely see a club on the continent come in and we’d be struggling then.

Edouard and Sinclair will both be gone next summer you'd imagine but aye I agree with your point.

Sinclair is currently on a reported £35k per week but if you burst that figure for Elyounoussi then other players will be demanding an increase.

It's all down what club he thinks is the best fit, I don't think he's going to be short on offers.

Classic catch-22, if he plays well we have a great season and offers come in. If he players poorly then no offers but probably we don’t even take him then for that money.

Hopefully a wee minor injury around June 1st puts everyone else off. :fear:
