Our negative approach in Georgia still irks me after all this. Can't fault the lads tonight tho gave everything.

Doherty was quality apart from switching off for the goal, you're in trouble however when your player most likely to do something going forward is playing at right back.

Mcgoldrick is a neat and tidy player but there's not many strikers out there I'd fancy less to get a goal.

Think tonight shows why we struggle to qualify in tournaments,we played great tonight(think the circumstances allowed for that)but we cant do that in the majority of our games.

Good teams mostly play well with the odd bad game whereas we mostly play average with the odd good game.

I think at the end of the day we just dont have the guys up front good enough to give us the extra edge we need.

Weren’t good enough overall to qualify. Wouldn’t be overly optimistic about our chances in this play off either.

I'm sick of the sight of him, no idea how he merits these starts. Yes he puts a shift in, but * me his decision making is atrocious and he has absolutely no quality. I'd go as far as saying he's the personification of the problems in Irish football. A lot of running about, hard tackling, without any intelligence or quality.

Only saw last 15 on a stream and thought you played well for that part of the game anyway. Got into a few decent positions and could have stolen it.

Looking at it i would still think you've a decent shout. Looks like Iceland, Bosnia, Wales, Slovakia, Narnia will be one of your opponents. They wouldn't fill me with fear. I'm more scared of us getting the Romanians. :fear:

Personally I'd play 3-5-2 with Stevens and Doherty as wing-backs.

    Randolph
    Duffy Egan Clark
    Doherty Browne Hourihane Hendrick Stevens
    McGoldrick Maguire

Suppose its all down to opinion, imo Hendrick has not grown to be the player he looked like he,d become and id drop him before Mcclean but as i said its all down to opinion.

I don’t know most of this Ireland team. Of course not a big fan of internationals but could always pick out players and what club they were at.

I love his attitude..plus he won't wear a poppy :) and when he came to Millwall and everyone booed him (over the poppy) he just laughed...Anyhoo Footballing wise...I think he's important to the team..he has great never say die attitude, runs hard and comes up with some big moments...if we throw him out, we're a poorer team..I think he'll retire after this campaign anyway so it's all moot. I'd like to see Hayes in though...he'd be perfect for this team.

That was heartbreaking. What an atmosphere, kids really got into it and very disappointed at the end. Great to have them at a meaningful match for Ireland.
Amazing how a game can produce that kind of atmosphere and be so enjoyable to be there as opposed to watching it at home simply because somethings at stake. It probably was a poor game to watch on TV but it wasn't a poor game to attend (I've read that paragraph back a few times and it's not quite what I want to say but kind of is, if that even makes sense!)
Lads gave it a real go, bar the goal the tactical discipline was incredible. Not surprisingly it was Eriksen who made the goal after Hourihane went off, he'd been tracking Eriksen everywhere.
Just on McClean, perhaps hes not the greatest. But his commitment, passion, workrate and sheer will to win was brilliant. I'll take that over a baller who has questionable heart and goes hiding every day. Horses for courses.
    On to the playoffs.......

Unlucky my Irish friends! Hopefully you can steal some more Scottish and Northern Irish players so that you are in a stronger position for the next qualifiers (hopefully a striker as 7 goals in 8 games is an embarrassment).
