To be fair the lad is only 25 so not even in his peak career years yet. But nonetheless there is no way we are paying 16m for him. Never mind his wages. At best I could see us forking out about 8m for him but doubt Southampton are willing to take that big a loss on him.

£7m/£8m/£9m plus a decent sell on clause will give them something to think about surely.

The * are due us a favour after us selling them VVD, Wanyama, Forster and Armstrong :fear:

The only way I see us getting an Elyounoussi is if they want a star player of ours..

For example Ajer. Paying us 10 mill and Elyounoussi and Forster coming the other way..

    That kinda deal..

They'd probably take that type of offer but in their arrogance would demand we pay them atleast £6mill

Teams buy our young players with the idea that their best years will be with them/they can sell on for more £££. We sign Mo next summer he’s 26, couple years at us and he’s 28. Not old no but his ceiling will be reached and any potential sell on for the team will be minimal.

We’ve clearly adapted our model though after buying Jullien, we’ve plenty young talent on the wings at Celtic - Johnston, Shved, Dembele, Okoflex etc, we need to buy proven quality on top of that for europe and to keep improving the squad.

Southampton are teetering. Could be a game changer if they get relegated with regards to player sales and fees involved.

OK, hope they get relegated and offer us both Ely & and big FF just to get them off their wage bill, maybe chuck in in Armstrong also.

If only... EPL parachute payments means no need to trim wage bill unless Saints carry debt down with them !?

It's not so much trimming wage Bill's though. A lot of clubs that go down tend to get rid of their deadwood to make room for players that they think will get them out of the championship. Pretty sure it was similar circumstances that allowed us to get Sinclair for the price we did.

The £100 million parachute payment means they will want to get straight back up with players good enough to do that.

Pretty sure the parachute payment is 70 million meaning a 30 million surplus on their budget players will be moved

Apparently, Hasenhüttl doesn’t rate him, thinks he’s too slow and didn’t show enough desire to fight for his place..

Maybe he just didn’t want to play in a * Town, * stadium in front of * fans..

Be a long shot but hope we can make him ours.

We don't have to be too binary about everything. Yes, the core of our strategy should be young players with development potential and sell-on value; however there's nothing wrong with spending £16 million on proven, experienced quality in key positions at strategic moments. He ticks all those boxes for me.

As long as we don't make a habit of it.

They get 55% of previous year, then 40% then 20%. So they need to trim fat big time.
