How absurd my opinion is? You are using a completely different sport to make that point? Why dont you stick to rugby and make your point instead of comparing an international rugby team with a team that spends millions of pounds each year buying the best players around the globe.

You can't play quick flashy rugby - which Japan do not do, without getting the basics right first. As for being technical - every team is technical.

They most certainly are not 'flashy'!

It’s not wrong saying Japan do the basics right, it’s just such a vague statement and it’s not why they beat Ireland and Scotland.

They had to bring something different and they did. Their offloading in the tackle was phenomenal, it could easily be called flashy. Basics would be keeping possession of the ball, recycling and going again.

Their support play was beyond basic. You can say supporting a player is a basic skill, but so is offloading. It’s the way Japan did it, they went the further mile as they needed to.

We are just going to have to disagree on this.

The basics of the game are passing, tackling, support play, decision making. Japan have not done anything flashy in this tournament - they certainly have effective tactics but this does not equate to flashy play.

You say that playing the basics right isn't vague yet I haven't seen anyone provide any evidence of how Japan play this flashy brand of rugby.

Passing, tackling, kicking, support play, decision making, running with the ball are all basics principles in rugby. They can be performed as basic or as flashy as you’d like. Japan are not basic. That’s why their play is being compared to the Barbarians. Easy cop out saying the media are blowing it out of proportion, it’s a fact.

    Such a weird argument.

I’ve seen some amount of rugby, you don’t see the things they do every game.

The barbarians comment ....is that something you picked up from the commentary. They have played Russia, a weak Ireland team, just about got the bonus point against Samoa with a dubious penalty at the end and played a * Scotland team who turned up for 45 minutes of the game.

They have done what they have had to do. There has been nothing flashy - It is subjective on what is flashy play. I have given plenty of reasons as to why they aren't flashy and yet nothing has been posted to say why they are flashy.

Believe me I watch enough rugby on the TV and and live to know what is good and what is great. Japan are very good with the ball and they are intelligent but not flashy.

What is weird about this argument is that people dont understand is that rugby isn't about being flashy and doing the basics efficiently with a lot of hard work isn't being critical. What's worse is people being patronising towards Japan. When they beat Ireland they were a top 10 team there's absolutely nothing wrong with that loss yet most pundits calling it a bigger upset than the SA win.

What do results have to do with whether they are flashy or not?

You haven’t given any reasons why they aren’t flashy. You have only said they do the basics well.

Nobody is saying that’s a bad thing, we are saying they are more than than and I gave you reasons. I gave you actual moments in the game.

People patronising them has nothing to do with this argument because that’s not what anyone in here is doing.

    Same..

Think the Aussies will keep it close and the Japanese will trouble the South Africans but can't see past the four you've listed..

Think France will get the worst beating and the kiwis will win fairly comfortably..

Hope the Aussies can start off a good Saturday with a surprise..
