Aye Red,liking the job so far the rest of the workers there are sound,i basically have to make sure the grass pitch is playable on a Saturday i.e. white line it and fork the wet areas to help drainage, then clean the astro turf pitch and brush it to redistribute the wee plastic balls after it has been used for the week. I think it could get a bit tedious in the winter as I've gave the grass the last cut until spring and the rest of the work only takes around a day and a half to complete, but as for now i'm happy there. The scheme lasts for a year initially so there's a long way to go before I find out if i'll be kept on or if I choose to move on.

As you say, Johnie, plenty of time to decide. You'll get to see all four seasons (although in Ireland's case...). Hopefully, you fill your days and the decision will be yours at the end. Glad your workmates are sound, makes all the difference. You could shovel * if your colleagues are decent people.

I forgot to add...I knew this was a big fish, when I saw it break the surface I was gobsmacked...I don't know if anyone on here watched that until the end ..I hope so to get a sense of how I felt when I saw it.
Sturgeon have been around since the dinosaurs apparently, this fish was measured , tagged and released back to the river.

That's a big fish....I've never purposely fished for pike , but I caught one by mistake In Russia last year...it was just a baby though.
I guess it's a chance we take when fishing...most of the fish are unharmed but obviously sometimes a badly hooked fish comes along...those are the ones I'll keep.

Just watched that film there, your rod and line must have been under some strain sonic, did you weigh the fish? is that the biggest you've caught?

No, we never weighed the fish as it important to get it back asap.
Every sturgeon caught on the river are quickly checked for tags and measured which are recorded for the fishery scientists who keep all the data..or growth how many times caught and movement etc.
If the fish is untagged the guide has all the tagging equipment and does the job as quickly as possible....this was a young fish we caught earlier in the day which had not been tagged....yes it's the biggest fish I've ever caught but not my most memorable.

Driving back to Glasgow from Paisley yesterday with my wife and daughter, we had to come of the motorway as we had a small problem with the car. Whilst parked up at the side of the road, about 5/6 flocks of Geese flew over us and landed in the field right next to us. Instantly , my daughter and I forgot about the car, much to my wife's annoyance, and searched the field hopefully for a rarity or something we'd never seen before. How right we were, as we saw 2 LIFERS in the field. Among lots of Pink-Footed, and Greylag Geese, and Canada Geese, there were a few Brent Geese and Bean Geese. We've never seen these before. What a great spot. Thankfully the car was easily fixed, and we were soon on our way, but now all the talk was of our TWO lifers.
