Love both fights, 244 card would blow the boxing out the water though. DAZN mad to try and compete.

 

Canelo vs Kovalev will almost certainly outsell it.

 

I think it will be pretty even.

Kovalev isn’t a household name. He’s not Manny or GGG. The only two people Canelo will sell fights with, outside Mayweather obviously. Good fight of course but they are wild to go against a stacked MSG UFC card.

 

Canelo alone can carry a card reasonably well, and the interest in him stepping up 2 weight classes will be significant.

I disagree with DW when he says it’s a stupid move from DAZN. They’ll have assessed things and ran the numbers meticulously and wouldn’t have picked the same date unless they were confident of stealing the limelight. Ultimately Canelo is the biggest name out of the 4 main event fighters by an absolute mile. If Conor was headlining the UFC card then it would’ve been a bizarre move, but if you look at Canelo’s recent viewing figures in DAZN compared to UFC cards without a McGregor, they stack up very well.

 

That's strange scheduling. Both events appeal to the casual fan and should do well with large viewership but to have them competing does neither side any favours and * over people who follow both sports.

 

All probably true, but surely it makes sense to avoid competing with a card that going to be a huge favourite with fight fans?

DAZN a new platform, they should be trying to maximise numbers rather than go toe to toe with one of the biggest cards of the year IMO.

 

Doesn’t matter if it outsells it, the fact is the UFC will be taking eyes off it if there’s a clash with time.

Why would you steal some of the limelight when you could have had the whole thing on a different weekend.
