Aye same as. Said to the child the other day ‘oh oh Zara there’s a bear in the air’ such a look of bewilderment I got lol.
I remember when there was power failures at night and they would be out with the big spot light, used to get them to try and chase us, running up and down entries used to get their attention, not the brightest thing to do really in them days. Can still name them all I think chinnock, gazelle, puma, lynx.
While sitting in are classroom in st galls we could watch the helliwhoppers airlifting supplies onto the top of divis tower.
Still get the psni one above us quite a lot.
Another thing, my ma would never let me play outside with toy guns when young and I was only allowed wee silver cowboy cap guns. I remember an uncle brought me in one of these aks as he knew I wasn’t allowed them. Played with it all day (inside) went to bed and awoke the next morning to find it had mysteriously self destructed and ended up in the bin.
In hindsight my area wasn’t the best place to be running about with that and a load of trigger happy brits.

Children now don't know how to deal with a scratched or cut head, knee etc. It was part and parcel of growing up. When I got cut, if the blood wasn't gushing out, I left it and continued playing. We all did.

After that it was back to lolly sticks, beer mats etc in the back wheel spokes to make a motorbike sound.

Do you know I was gonna say that about them trailing the area with the massive spotlight. We used to do the same. In against the walls and run behind cars and stuff. Used to catch them out sometimes when the spot would follow you for a couple of minutes. It was like being famous.

We had a lot of old buildings near us, so we used to climb in, take all the doors and make a 'Den'. Sat in it for hours. We used to 'borrow' the doormats so we had a carpet.

My Granda was a woodbine man all his days. By the end he was smoking 40 a day and I think they were about 12 quid a packet!

168 quid a week on cigarettes.
