Fernando Ricksen has passed away after a long battle with MND.

Horrible disease for anyone to suffer. He fought it to the end though.

I think the worst thing about MND is the complete helplessness and knowledge that there's absolutely nothing you can do. Sad to see him waste away like that.

Horrible disease. Wouldn’t wish what he’s been through over the past few years on my worst enemy.

A blessing in disguise in some ways I imagine, because living through it must’ve felt torturous at times. No faux sentiment, but it’s pretty heartbreaking to see someone with so much of their life ahead of them go through something as horrific as MND.

    RIP

EVERYONE at Celtic Park was saddened by the news that former Rangers player, Fernando Ricksen has sadly passed away.

Peter Lawwell, Celtic Chief Executive said:“Everyone at Celtic would like to extend their most sincere and heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of Fernando Ricksen following today’s news that he has passed away.

“Fernando was part of Scottish Football for a number of years and for him to be taken so young is a huge tragedy.

“He fought this terrible condition with such courage and we should all admire and respect the inspirational way in which he tackled the challenge which he faced.

“He showed immense bravery throughout. Our thoughts and prayers of course are with Fernando’s family and friends at such a difficult time.”

Crazy how hard he fought it to the end.

Football takes a back seat sometimes.

He was a * on the pitch.

He was a * to MND and fought it with the same infuriating determination as he fought in football.

Football means * all in times like this and all we can do is give respect to the man who refused to yield to such a demeaning disease.
