LEIGH GRIFFITHS wants to make his Scotland comeback in Russia.

SunSport understands the Celtic hitman was gutted to miss out on the painful Hampden defeats to the Russians and Belgium

Griffiths, 29, plans to tell boss Steve Clarke he’s ready to come back into the reckoning ahead of the Group I clash in Moscow next month.

Clarke left Griffiths out of his last squad, insisting the striker didn’t need added pressure following his seven-month stint out while dealing with personal issues.

Griffiths cut a frustrated figure at Hampden on Monday night watching his Scotland mates crash to a 4-0 loss.

The 19-times capped ace is desperate to get back into the national squad.

He’s also eager to win back a starting slot with Celts after being benched for the victories over AIK andRangers.

Clarke and his squad could do with being lifted following two crushing losses which ended any hopes of reaching Euro 2020 through Group I.

Scotland still have a guaranteed play-off next March following Nations League success.

Clarke’s side lacked an attacking spark against Russia and Belgium, with Oli McBurnie and Matt Phillips unconvincing up front.

Scotland will return from Russia to face San Marino at Hampden on October 13 — and Griffiths will be hoping to feature.

Sounds like the "San Marino" game could be a good opportunity for griff to cut his teeth again.
    No pressure on him.

C'mon griff.!! :ynwacelti we've missed you at celtic and in the national team.

Still think when he's on form he's the best striker in Scotland. Easy

Better than Eddie? Don't think Leigh can reach the level that Edouard can.

No I think in terms of being a real striker. Killer instinct, poachers goals, right place at the right time etc etc then I think Leigh Griffiths in still the best in Scotland. When he's fully fit and on form that is

Griffiths is absolutely nowhere near Edouard’s level.

As Keano pointed out he's actually under rated rather than over rated and as you say we would be wise to keep him here till he retires because we're not signing a Dembele and Eddy every year, Bayo will take 2 years at least so we need someone reliable who isn't looking for a big deal and is happy to play for us and knows how to be prolific in our league.

It's hardly hyperboleigh, he's definitely the best Scottish striker.

Nut mate. I genuinely believe that when every striker in the league is on top form, then Grif is still the best. In terms of being an all round player then he's maybe not as good as Eddy but as a striker.....scoring goals, clinical finishing, consistency etc (when he's fit and on form remember) I still think he's the best striker in the country
