Are the rumours true that you were far too big for Summer that’s why she settled for Gordon’s baby *. :84:

Rooney would be a much better comparison than Van Nistelrooy.

No even close big man. Rooney is a street footballer.

I mostly agree with Paul; but if I had to choose a comparison, I'd actually go with Sammy. The main difference is that Eddy is much more talented, more consistent and has a much higher ceiling (that's not intended to diss Sammy, who was a really good player on his day, even at CL level); but in style and approach, I see a lot of similarities.

Given how important Sammy was to our CL campaigns under Lenny, he must be rubbing his hands together at how good Eddy will be in the EL.

The saddest thing is that, after Cluj, I can't bring myself to believe we'll ever see him in the CL for us. :54:
You can really see what Lenny is doing in terms of how we will approach Europe. Forster, Julienn and Ajer, Eddy... that's a really solid spine. It's just missing a beast of a DM. I imagine we'll get one next year, but Eddy will surely move on (and to a Lyon or an Arsenal, not a Southampton). I just wish Lenny had come in last May instead of this February*.

    * Before I get jumped on, no, I'm not saying Lenny is a better coach than Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers didn't give a proverbial his last 12 months and it really showed with where we were at the start of the summer. So I wish we'd got in Lenny much earlier.

I just think Rooney as a bridge between a 10 and a 9 is closer to Edouard than Van Nistelrooy was. I remember Van Nistelrooy as a poacher, even though as you said they’ve got very different styles and builds.

I think a lot of people do think of RVN as a box striker but for me he had everything.

I remember Strachan talking about him for the Netherlands and he was one of the first who pointed out he was elite as a lone striker because he had everything.

I’m sorry @Random Review but please stop comparing Eddy to Samaras man :giggle1:

Samaras was * *, fed up saying it. A lazy big * who had about 12 good games in his whole career here. Nice guy, loves the club, but please don’t compare him to our striker whos teetering on world class level performances at times with us. Nothing alike at all.

12 good games, seriously the pish that comes out peoples mouth (fingers?) sometimes.

Guy was an excellent servant to us, wasnt even a striker all the time, his goals and assists, maybe you should have a look at that.

He had his off days and when he did they were off, but I'll hazard a guess that saying it wasn't about 150ish games.

I don't see the comparison myself, but Eds got a bit to do most definetely in Europe to be even mentioned in the same breath as him BTW.

He's only 21, best is still to come but probably not with us when that moment arrives.

I cannae take people seriously that come away with * like that.

Eddy is a infinitely better player at 21 than Samaras ever was in his whole career, here or elsewhere.

Aye good servant, could only be arsed being a good servant about 25% of his time here. * are blinded by him being a good guy and good with wee jay etc. He was mediocre as * as a player though.

Best games were big, high profile games. Scored twice vs Barca at the Nou Camp, far from mediocre.

But agreed that Edouard is a better player overall. He's destined for the very top. In fact I think he'd be capable of playing there already, delighted we've kept hold of him.

Said it a million time’s Lenny utilised his pace and running power perfectly on the left in Europe. The only time I genuinely thought he was anything more than mediocre.

Anybody comparing the 2 are mental.

Christ what a pile of *.

Eddy is already a far better and more consistent player than Samaras ever was.

Samaras had one good game for every 4 stinkers.

I liked Sammy but he did have the odd disappearing-act, which was frustrating. But, I more than appreciated what he done for the team and the club. In terms of technical ability, though, Odsonne is a different kettle of fish and he'll just get better and better going forward. At 21, alarm bells will be ringing all over if we start rattling teams in Europe. If we manage to hold onto him for another 18months (10IAR) I'll be impressed - the guy is class

The truth lies somewhere inbetween this, he had his moments, sometimes infuriating but saying * like 12 games then upped to 25% is pure bullshit.

He could be annoying as * though and I don’t get the comparison.

Goodness, that's a bit unfair from some of you. Sometimes people just like to leap straight on their high horse, before they actually fully process what a post is saying*. I was quite clear that Eddy is a far superior player to Samaras. I was merely talking about stylistic impression. If I ever do compare Eddy to Sammy in terms of quality, then I agree, I will be talking *. I have no plans to say anything that mental.

Having said that, I don't agree that Sammy was *. Used strategically (by Lennon), he was a vital part of that last 16 season. My point was precisely that: if Lenny could get that out of Sammy, what will he be able to do with someone of Eddy's class?

    * I've done it myself at times on here, but it's still very unfair.
