Celtic defender Jack Hendry could still leave the club with four Portuguese clubs in the running to sign him, according to a report.

The Portuguese window remains open until September 22 which means Hendry could still quit Glasgow in the coming days.

The centre back is yet to play under Neil Lennon and turned down a loan move to Kilmarnock on deadline day as part of Celtic's move to sign Greg Taylor.

But now he could join one of Santa Clara, Tondela or Vitoria Guimaraes in the Portuguese top flight or Farense in the second tier in a season long loan deal, according to the Sunday People.

The Liga Nos window is open later than the rest of European football and clubs have until next Sunday to sign players.

If he joined Santa Clara, he would line up alongside Rangers flop Fabio Cardoso who has earned rave reviews since his move back to Portugal.

The 24-year-old has been at Celtic since the January window in 2018 but has played just 26 times in all competitions

Last season he made just four league appearances and is yet to feature at all this time around.

Hendry started his career at Partick Thistle before an ill-fated move to Wigan. He enjoyed loan spells at Shrewsbury and MK Dons but at 24 has just 82 club appearances under his belt.

It’s not the boys fault he’s on what he’s on (before tax - I always marvel that footballers wages are never mentioned after tax, it’s always the topline) we signed him. We offered him what we offered him.

    What would you do?

A net £20-26k every month for three years is just shy of £1 million. He might not get another shot at that and this could set him up for the rest of his life.

We signed him. We must deal with the boy correctly.

One of the aspects I dislike about football, and it runs from 5 year olds to the top of the pro game, is the old “if your face fits” garbage.

One minute you are in and then next you are shunned or a new manager just doesn’t fancy playing you. So then the player is ostracised. Football can * off for that *. If it happens in any other workplace there are proper procedures in place. Fraser Wishart and his players union you hear * all from unless he needs to stand up for a Sevco player or suck Satan’s * (same thing).

If I was Jack I’d sit it out whilst instructing my agent to work for his damned fees to find a happy compromise that suits me and Celtic and a club where I can get a game.

You do wonder how we got it this wrong with Jack Hendry. Heralded as a Champions League quality player when he signed.

I didn't really see him at Dundee, but after half a season we paid them good money for him and it has never really looked like good business. I'm not even sure he's that bad a player, but he looked like he was really crumbling under the pressure of playing for us at times.

He was taken out of the team and out of the limelight for his won good and has just never come back. A couple of injuries and a few new CBs arriving and he is well down the pecking order now.

Can't blame him for sitting tight and picking up his wages, * I don't understand why he wouldn't ave gone out to Killie on loan. Surely he'd still have been getting his full wage?

I'll tell you why, because Fraudgers thought SO highly of himself, he thought he could actually mould Hendry into the Scottish version of John Stones.

Did you watch John Stones last night? I think he succeeded.

Rodgers just can’t spot a defender.

It's very sad that the fans continue to this day tear him apart, and he doesn't even play that much anymore! many things didnt Go right for him but wasn't solely to blame for a lot of the performances he was starting in. I dont understand fans laying into their own players (Hendry has been continually getting abuse, if he was playing every week and fcking up I could understand but he hasn't been anywhere near the first team for ages. Hope he makes it elsewhere and proves his doubters wrong.

Disregarding the fact Hendry is over 18, he’ll no even be a Celtic player by this time next week all being well.

According to the Scottish media FOUR Portuguese clubs are after him. No doubt the likes of Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are scrapping it out amongst themselves to land Hendry, sparking a bidding war that could see them willing to go bankrupt to secure the signature of the much coveted Hendry. :drag:
