Neil Lennon insists he has no interest in Rangers splashing out £7m to recapture Ryan Kent from Liverpool as he eyes up a ninth consecutive title for Celtic.

The Parkhead boss was named manager of the month for August by league sponsors Ladbrokes hot on the heals of Sunday’s Old Firm win at Ibrox which has left the champions three points clear at thew top of the table.

Rangers responded to that defeat on Monday night by spending a fortune on winger Kent who returns to the club on a four year deal after a hugely impressive loan spell last season.

But a bullish Lennon is adamant Kent’s signing will have no impact on his plans to keep Celtic in the title driving seat.

He said: “I’ve no interest in it whatsoever. We have no interest in what Rangers are doing. Well I certainly don’t and especially off the back of a great performance and a great win. All it is is three points and a big psychological lift for everyone associated with the clubs. Four games in it’s been a very good start but that’s all it is.

“I can’t control what other teams do. Who they bring in or what they spend. But we control what we do and I’m pretty happy with the end results.”

Asked if he felt Rangers would have pushed the boat out for Kent had Steven Gerrard’s side not lost Sunday’s derby Lennon continued intriguingly: “Probably. I would have!”

But when quizzed over suggestions Celtic had been considering making a rival bid for the Englishman Lennon answered: “No. Why would I? I have Mikey Johnston, I have Forrest I have Shved, I’ve got Elyounoussi, Sinclair and Hayes. I’ve got Morgan. So we’re covered in that area.”

Lennon, though, is still basking in the enjoyment of his latest Ibrox win, which he rates as one of the most important of his long history with this fixture.

He said: “Yeah, it’s up there. I’m telling you, it’s up there. It’s up there for many, many reasons.

“Again, you don’t listen to the noise. You have to separate yourself from it and see what’s in front of you because that’s the reality.

“There are a lot of people out there who have opinions and there are a lot of pundits up here but you can’t listen to them either even if sometimes you respect their opinions.”

Lennon also declared himself satisfied with Celtic’s transfer business after bringing in three players - Greg Taylor of Kilmarnock, Manchester City’s Jeremie Frimpong and Man United youngster Lee O’Connor before the window closed for the summer.

Taylor and Frimpong will go straight into Celtic’s senior squad while Lennon will run the rule over O’Connor before decising if the defender is ready to challenge for a starting place.

With Nir Bitton, Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic all on Celtic’s treatment table the manager is keen to assess all options over the international break.

He said: “Nir will be three or four weeks, Ajer will be 10 days. We are hoping to have him back for Hamilton. We will need to send Jozo to a specialist and we will take it from there.

“We have a good squad now. We’ve trimmed the squad a lot. 13 left in the summer. It’s not as bloated as it was last season.”

Talks very well in the press conference, seems more relaxed now after AIK and the Hun wins. Looking forward to seeing what he can achieve this season, as he says, players are all United and we've added good quality where it was needed.

Time to show everyone why we're treble treble 8iar champions :ynwacelti

Interesting that Frimpong goes straight in the senior squad with O’Connor being the one we’re watching over to judge, would have thought it’d be the opposite way around.

NEIL Lennon summed up Celtic’s summer transfer activity as ‘very good’ following the closure of the window on Monday night, and the Hoops manager said he was beginning to see the new arrivals make their mark.

Transfer deadline day saw the Scottish champions add a further three players to the squad with Greg Taylor arriving from Kilmarnock on a four-year deal before young players Lee O’Connor and Jeremie Frimpong agreed permanent deals from Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.

Those deals sealed the activity that also saw defender Moritz Bauer and forward, Mohamed Elyounoussi arrive prior to the weekend.

The business on the final day rounded off a busy summer of transfer activity for Celtic with 11 players in total joining the squad.

Neil Lennon was pleased with the moves as he spoke to the media at Celtic Park after receiving the Manager of the Month Award for August.

“It’s been a very good window,” said the Irishman. “I’m very pleased to get Mo in, it gives us another attacking option. Greg coming in was prolonged but the deal got down in the end and he’s delighted to be here.

“The two young lads, Lee and Jeremy, are ones for the future, or with the talent they have they could make an impact this season.

“When you see the calibre of players that left in the summer, Kieran, Mikael and Dedryck, we had to bolster the defence and we’re seeing the fruits of that now with the performances from Christopher, Boli and Hatem. Moritz has come in later so he’ll embed himself in and hopefully be a good addition. Overall we’re very pleased with the business we’ve done.”

Taylor was ecstatic to sign for Celtic, but the 21-year-old had little time to settle in as he joined up with the Scotland squad ahead of this week’s international double-header.

“Greg’s the icing on the cake I’m very pleased to get a very consistent player at this level,” said Neil Lennon. “He’s already an internationalist and I'm looking forward to him developing into an even better player than he already is.

“He’s not missed any football, he’s away for Scotland and will hopefully play with his country and that’s always a great privilege for any player. You could see how much it meant for him to sign. Now he’s away with his former manager so there’s a familiarity there for him as well.

“I think these are heady times for him and he’s very excited about what lies in store. In terms of what he’s already achieved here, over the last couple of seasons he’s been one of the most consistent players in the country and we’re delighted to get him on board.”

Disappointed to hear that Bitton is out for a while, and Jozo needing to see a specialist.

NL: “From yesterday onwards, it’s back to concentrating on domestic duties. We want to try and pick up where we left off.”

NL: “They’ve all came back fit and well. The only absentees we have is Nir who is out for three weeks with a hamstring injury. Mikey with a groin injury and Jozo with an ongoing knee problem but he’s seeing a specialist today.

NL: “Tomorrow is the most important game because it’s the next one. We respect Hamilton. We know if we can win then it will set us up well and then we focus on Rennes

NEIL LENNON insists the abuse of footballers in Scotland must come to an end.

Rangers handed a lifetime ban to a 15-year-old supporter after he taunted Celtic captain Scott Brown over the death of his sister.

It prompted the Scottish Sun to launch its Respect Our Players campaign in which we call for supporters to do their all to rid our game of these morons.

And Hoops boss Lennon says there is no defending any supporter who is caught abusing footballers or managers in Scotland.

He said: “I have to applaud Rangers for the swift action that they took and the support a lot of their fans have given to Scott.

“But it’s got to stop. There’s just no call for that.

We’re talking, not only here but in Britain now, there seems to be this uprising and a lot of racism.

“We have a sectarian problem here, we know that.

Our 95% of supporters here are really good and like Scott said yesterday, he doesn’t mind during the game.

“But when we’re out and about in the streets and trying to live our lives, you’re not at a football ground, they’ve no right to abuse or insult people in that manner.

In any capacity, never mind in a footballing capacity.”

And Lennon admits it is difficult at times not to react.

I’ve had a brief chat with him about it and I think he handled the situation very well.

“It’s incredibly hard (not to react).

I don’t know what I would have done. I’m older now and Scott is a lot more mature.

“Maybe five or six years ago it might have been a different outcome.

“I’m not sure what the lad was trying to prove or what his thought process was, if he had one at all. It’s disgusting.

“I think it’s awful, horrendous. To even think about that, let along say it, is horrendous.”
