Of course there are always exceptions to the rule but there is a reason people use the saying ''buy cheap, buy twice'.

And whilst you point out the exceptions look at the team O'Neil built. Not a cheap team but probably the best Celtic team in my lifetime!

Wanyama and vvd were/are very special players granted. It's incredible we acquired them so cheaply. Non the the less for those two incredible signings we have also landed the likes of amido baldes, tonevs, boerrigters etc.

You cannot deny player with a higher transfer asking price are usually of better quality. It's just illogical.

You want a bigger faster car, you pay more. You want the best possible phone you pay more. You want a better player and you still pay more

The problem is that buying players isn't a science.

I don't think anyone will argue that spending more on a player is exciting because the talent should reflect the price tag. However, you can be sold a dud.

    We just need better scouting.

Taylor is a far better prospect than Hendry was when we brought him in..

100+ top flight games at 21, Scotland cap..etc.

The most important thing is research and scouting for me, rather than price.

Taking your car example, aye, you could go out and buy a TVR at £300k but they’re notorious for breaking down and they don’t fit the baby’s car seat in it and there’s no back seat for you’re other wean, never mind the Mrs. Don’t even get started on getting some golf clubs into the ‘boot’

Then you could go buy a Ford Mondeo at 10% of the price, that slots right into your life and you’ve got all the bells and whistles on it because you put in the proper research to see if it has that Sat Nav ye need built in...

Should be more than twice the player than Wanyama but, being twice the price :fear:

This is the thing though, you can go out an buy an ex-Barca youth player who is a Mexican international for X amount of millions - * disnae settle, and cannie handle his booze (as you know lol),

Or you take a gamble on a generally complete unknown and he ends up being one of your best players after the "stars align" and you end up needing to play the boy you've brought in as a CB to play in midfield.

We're seeing the same now with Ajer etc.

Needing to properly scout is massive for us because I genuinely think the thing that’s needed most to be a success for us regardless of position - is a strong mentality.

    Just look at Teemu Pukki.

Pukki was clearly a talented player who was well scouted at Schalke when we signed him. Obviously, as with all signings, some of them just do not work out for one reason or another - Teemu was one of them.

I was meaning about mentality being the biggest thing with us, it’s a sort of undefinable quality sometimes.

Aye, that's what I was agreeing with there. Pukki clearly had the qualities, but didn't have the mentality at that point in his career, which he certainly has now.

One would think - on paper, that the £3m signing from Schalke in the Bundesliga would have been a much much better player than the £2.3m signing from the English Championship playing for low level team Scunthorpe (Hooper), but in real life it doesn't always work in said way.

100%, research the player and if he’s the right fit for us.

His manager says it's a hamstring problem, must be true.

Said this on the Meling thread, but I wouldn’t be against buying both him and Taylor and using Bolingoli somewhere further up the park.

Otherwise, I’d rather just cough up for Meling.
