That's just pathetic isn't it we have made a fortune over the last few seasons selling players. I just wish the board and lennon would actually look at proven quality now and again rather than for resale value only

When was the last time we were successful going with that format when John Park was still on the books? That’s been failing miserably for a while now and Lawwell needs to take a step back regarding transfers etc he’s getting involved far too much than he has to be.

Sorry for the bump, this boy has just been called up to the Ecuador first team. Seems like his stock is continuing to rise.

It’s all gone quiet of late on Celtic’s interest in Ecuador wonderkid Jose Cifuentes.

Neil Lennon had admitted the 20-year-old playmaker was ‘on the radar’ last month but since then Manchester City have seen a bid rejected by the player’s club America de Quito leaving the way apparently open for the Hoops to make a move.

However, Porto have now emerged as a candidate for the player’s signature.

Ecuador football site FutbolEcuador are reporting that the Portuguese giants have submitted a $2 million (£1.6 million) bid for the player who scored the goal of the tournament in the summer’s U20 World Cup.

Cifuentes received a call-up to the full national side for their upcoming friendly fixtures against Peru and Bolivia in a few weeks’ time.

He's surely worth a punt at that price, although if Porto's interest is serious, we probably have little chance of signing him.

If Porto are in for him that’ll be a formality.

Also an indication that we’ve missed out on a potential star. Porto have been brilliant at sourcing good players from South America

Has anyone seen this lad play outside the U20 World Cup? From the looks of it, he haven't had a full season at senior level.

Lennon said “he was a name that came up, there was no concrete interest” in other words we knew about him and that was it!

Will move to spain in a few years time for millions most likely though!

CELTIC are set to miss out on Ecuadorian wonderkid Jose Cifuentes.

Powerful midfielder Cifuentes was the star of Ecuador’s Under-20 side at the recent World Cup.

And he was on the radar of Neil Lennon – as well as Premier League champions Man City.

But SunSport’s Alan Nixon has revealed that the 20-year-old is on the verge of joining Porto.

He tweeted an update on the situation saying: “Celtic. Look like missing out on Jose Cifuentes.

“Club and player about to accept offer from Porto.

Not like Celtic didn’t have enough time to do this.”

Lennon was asked about interest in Cifuentes and said: “It’s a player who we know very little about but one that has come up on the radar so that’s all I can say on that one.”

The 20-year-old played his football for América Quito and Universidad Catolica over the last couple of seasons but appears to be in the dark about any proposed move.

Speaking about his future to Mais Futbol, he said: “My future is complicated. I want to leave, but the club has already rejected two proposals and does not give me opening to transfer.

The offers came from Manchester City and FC Porto.”

    Lennon on the player:

Doesn’t sound to me like he was every a target!

CELTIC target Jose Cifuentes has hit out at Universidad Catolica for 'blocking' his potential move to Porto.

Speaking to Zero Zero, the midfielder admits he is desperate for a deal to be struck.

The Ecuadorian youngster is one player that Neil Lennon has had his eye on during the summer.

He said: “The talks are over, said the club president himself [Universidad Católica].

“They won't sell me, they need me and I have the desire to leave the country.

“This is very demotivating because every footballer thinks of leaving and now that I have the opportunity they won't let me.

“My future is hard to solve.

“There have already been two offers rejected by the club that owns my sports rights, I want to quit, but they don't give me that freedom.

“The offers were from Manchester City, FC Porto and one from the United States.”

Cifuentes plays at América Quito on loan from Universidad Catolica.
