Visited the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh this week . I saw a Grey Squirrel , a Frog , various water fowl and a Heron catching a fish . A great place to wander around in decent weather .

Yesterday early evening a cool juv male Sparrowhawk was noted in my garden.
Also yesterday 2 Emperor Dragonflies were once again proudly patrolling the local hidden pond, also several bright red Male Common Darters noted.

Haven't seen dragonflies in years, Cidermaster. Used to bring the youngsters up to the community woodland at foot of Divis mountain and we'd see loads patrolling the quarry.

Try and visit ponds nearby or keep an eye out on the edges of woodland or hedgerows or in your garden or other gardens.
These ultra cool creatures often hunt well away from water:50:

Some other posters (Cidermaster, Johniebhoy, Tarbolton Tim, Johnbhoy??) might confirm but we think this is a young female blackbird. She visited our garden this morning, stayed on the bird bath for a while and then up into the rowan tree and stayed there for about an hour. She was totally unperturbed by our presence.

We have been getting them for a few years now. They hang about in the oak tree and come into the garden, run around like bonkers, settle down and walk about and disappear again. We put up a squirrel feeder last summer but it took nearly a year for this wee fella to find it. He used to sit on top of it, not realising what it was. He has sometimes run up the driveway past the postman. The street sort of claims him. The odd time he will bring a wee chum into the garden with him and they'll have a go at the bird feeders.
