Rodgers is a fantastic manager, just a very frustrating one with some massive glaring flaws that will insure he’s not up there with the top coaches in the world just now.

If he had a bit more self reflection on his own faults he definitely would be.

Wouldn't be able to be in the squad until the second leg at this point.

The hysteria was all targetted at Boyata last year, leaving Rodgers with a, relatively speaking, easy ride from most supporters. But the hysteria was there, just not targetted in the same direction.

Suppose, no good to us tonight leaving it this late though, should have had these signings in ages ago.

Because they filled there heads with dreams of Rafa Benitez and Mourinho and are desperate to be proven right.

Don’t disagree but if he says hopes to sign somecunt before Thursday nights match and we sign somecunt before Thursday nights match you can’t ignore it and say ‘an imaginary deadline been and gone’

It’s an imaginary deadline being met :56:

Isn't the named squad for the entire round, not just the first leg?

Aye the big GK on loan I hear. Brilliant, canny wait. It's like we are deliberately skirting around the positions we actually really need and hoovering up freebies and loans for ones that are secondary requirements.

I think we’ll have to wait and see who’s better between Cluj and the AEK side Rodgers faced last year. If Cluj get into the CL they’ll have beaten some decent sides along the way to get there.

When it comes to comparing this years failure vs last years failure, it’s got to be pointed out that we were surely stronger last season. It would’ve been a major plus if we had qualified this year, but I honestly didn’t think it was likely. That doesn’t excuse Lennon, because he clearly * up tactically, but some perspective is needed. The playing squad is also miles of what it was in Rodgers first two seasons imo, so it’s difficult to compare.

Basically Rodgers inherited a very good, albeit underperforming squad, added quality in key areas and did it very well. Lennon is, for the second time, inheriting a squad that needs a much more significant rebuilding job, and is again having to sell his prized asset to do so. It will take time. The next few weeks starting with today’s game are so crucial to this whole season, and probably Lennon’s spell here as manager.

A different point from your original and one I really disagree with, a top class solid base at the back is what we do need.

Aye ur right but it's the first deadline he's mentioned that he's actually met so forgive us for doubting him especially when it's with a few hrs to go until k/o.

I don't think we were stronger last season. Our best CB refused (apparently) to play, which meant Hendry started. Lustig was at right back and cost us two goals because of his lack of mobility. Edouard was up top but he's massively kicked on since then. No Christie or Armstrong so less goals from midfield.

In the second leg we had a back 3 of Lustig, Hendry and Simunovic. Griffiths up top. A half fit Dembele came on late to try to save the game.

This season the only problem has been in defence. But we've spent £10 million on it so that really shouldn't have been a problem at all. Unfortunately that £10 worth of defenders were left on the bench.

Just because he refused to play doesn’t mean he wasn’t in the squad and readily available. It means our manager couldn’t control part of his squad to actually play for him.

And the other was Dembele, who you mentioned, he was in the squad. Might not have been fit but you take the two squads, we were stronger this time last year.

Which is why all the loan business in January was * criminal because we all knew this was coming.

    Besides the point.

Our squad was stronger this time around and we were more prepared. Or at least, should have been.

Tbh mate I'm not disappointed with Forster coming back if he's anywhere near his level when he left us then he's an upgrade but it wasn't a position we were crying out for and there are glaring deficiencies in the side that definitely needed addressed first. You must see that. Point scoring on this forum shouldn't hide you from the fact that our recruitment has been and continues to be completely shambolic. I may have been one of the few on here that actually wanted Lennon to get the gig but his demeanour, comments and actions across the summer are eroding alot of the faith I had in him.
