AS we look ahead to the 2019 Pedal for Scotland event on Saturday, September 8, we’re encouraging supporters to get on their bikes and raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation.

Among those already signed up to take part on behalf of the Foundation is Celtic legend, Tom Boyd, as he gets set to take on the 45-mile Classic Challenge from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

Speaking ahead of the event, Tom said: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the cycle. It’s great to be part of Celtic FC Foundation’s team and hopefully plenty more supporters sign-up to join us.

“It’s a brilliant event to encourage more people to get into cycling and hopefully we can raise some funds for the Foundation too.”

Monies raised will support Celtic FC Foundation's work in our four priority areas - Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty – and you can get behind Tom’s effort by donating HERE

Pedal for Scotland’s Classic Challenge is a closed-road, Glasgow to Edinburgh ride and is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist, cycle occasionally or would like to start cycling more, the ride can offer a brilliant challenge and fun day out.

Starting at Glasgow Green, the Classic Challenge offers a beautiful, closed-road cycle heading east, through the stunning Scottish countryside. There are rest stops roughly every 10 miles with plenty of food for fuel - and, 45 miles later, you’ll be crossing the finish line in Edinburgh and getting your well-earned medal.

Classic Challenge entrants can choose from the Standard (£31) or Gold (£43) entry – Gold entry offers a host of additional benefits including start line queue skip, priority queuing at rest stops, bag transfer from start to finish and access to showers.

Participants also have the choice of taking part in the Big Belter or the family-friendly Wee Jaunt Edinburgh.

The Big Belter, is aimed at the more experienced cyclist, looking to push themselves in this 100-mile challenge. Standard (£51) and Gold (£61) entry are once again available.

The Wee Jaunt Edinburgh is more suited to families, as well as beginners and people keen to get back into cycling. Starting in Linlithgow, the 10-mile cycle takes place on closed-roads to the finish line, with the event village offering a range of activities for all ages, as well as lots of refreshments. This option is open to adults and children, priced at £9 and £6 respectively, with family prices available from £15.

You can register for any of these event now at https://www.cycling.scot/pedal-for-scotland. As part of the sign-up process, please join Tom and the Foundation team by searching Celtic FC Foundation when prompted.

Following registration, please contact us on 0141 551 4204 or email cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk and we will provide you with a fundraising pack including sponsorship form, guidance on how to set up an online fundraising page and an official Celtic FC Foundation t-shirt.

He’s taking heat for this on Twitter. Makes my blood boil. Beaton who has a lot of previous, denies us one of the most blatant handballs we will probably see this season....Tom Boyd flags it up....Tom Boyds the disgrace though.

Every fan and their dog can see where Cheatons allegiances are. Yet the SFA constantly put him in charge of our games and theirs. His display at Ibrokes last year should've been the end for him yet here we are. Corrupt to the core. Well in Boyd for calling this * out for what he is. (Ya commentary is pish though lol)

The Scottish FA compliance officer is to investigate comments made by former Celtic captain Tom Boyd about John Beaton during Saturday's League Cup win against match against Dunfermline.

Commentating for CelticTV, the club ambassador criticised the referee for not awarding the hosts a penalty.

"If he doesn't know that's a penalty he should not be in the middle of the park refereeing a football game," Boyd said.

"He'll probably be welcomed down his pub tonight again."

Holders Celtic beat Dunfermline 2-1 in extra-time and during half-time of the additional 30-minute period, Boyd commented further on Beaton's decision not to give the hosts a spot-kick for handball.

"Old law, new law, no matter what kind of law, that is a penalty," he said. "How John Beaton hasn't given that... we've seen it before from referees like this. John Beaton not giving us penalty, absolutely stunning decision… standing alone there, I wonder what his thoughts are.

"I'm mystified… I'm not mystified. John Beaton as though it was a pre-meditated decision not to give that penalty because it was so late in the game, I'm not sure.

"It's come off his arm. Regardless of players down or whatever, he's not given a drop ball. So he's seen it hit the hand of the Dunfermline player and it should be a penalty. Outrageous decision from John Beaton.

"We've not played well, but once again a decision from a referee may cost us in this game, hopefully we'll go on and beat not the 10 men, not the 11 men of Dunfermline, but the 12 men."

The Compliance Officer is to investigate the nature of the comments.

Boyd played for Celtic between 1992 and 2003, winning eight trophies, and was capped 72 times by Scotland.
