I quite like what little I've seen of this guy, hopefully this circus can get sorted out next year and we can see him turn out properly for the hoops.

Is there a certain number of USA caps needed for a work permit? I would have thought the fact that he has a decent paying job on a 3/4 year contract through Celtic would grant you a permit to work in Scotland...strange

He looked good to me as well from what i've seen, good build and pace and looks fit enough to get a game. Decent on the ball as well. Be interesting to see how he gets on when he can finally get a game.

Signed a new contract with us as well? Interesting.

He looked good pre-season and clearly Lennon wanted him around the squad. Can see him coming back for training with the squad in the January break as well.
Keeping Tierney another year or so while we sort out this lads permit will be ideal.

Exactly hes from america no a 3rd world country coming for free medical care etc. Hes gonna be in a contract with guaranteed money for 4 years and presumably we dont use the NHS for injuries like sevco, so why wouldn't he get a work permit. Strange.

Watched the first half, should have had an assist and a goal.He looked a level above any of his team mates apart from Mattocks. I honestly think he will be a pler * solid.

I said before that i didnt believe that Gutman would see much competitive action for us, if any and i still feel that will be the case.

I can see him being moved on in next summers window.

They have claimed they have him to the end of the 2020 season!

Just wonder if that’s our 2020 season (June) or their 2020 season (November) next year?

In theory yes. Dont know the exact number but there is a % of the games in the last X years you need to play, for a country above a certain position in the FIFA ranking (100 something i believe). The way almost anyone gets a permit for Scotland is by claiming he "has ability to improve the standards of the game", while in England this is used less often. It has nothing to do with the caps (eboue got it without any) but it surely helps with the argument. The thing is, despite him being promising, he was signed pretty much from * levels of football and has only played at lower tiers of american football which is beyond crap.

Which makes me question again: why loaning him to an european team was never considered? Belgium, Netherlands, scandinavia? Surely it would be better for all the involved?

Massively off the mark there. He played in UCLC, a league that is much better than the scottish championship and was by far the best player in the league picking up all the awards at the end of the season.Considering he only played in that league to finish college i reckon weve picked up a gem.

This all doesnt matter from the work permit point of view and he was still a footballer with no professional experience. We are not being exactly victims of an injustice here.

Dont know how can we measure that league being better than the scottish championship (perhaps have a game between their champions and Dundee United?) but this doesnt mean they play decent football at all. He could still be a very good footballer, and I think he is, this wasnt the point I tried to make. But I (and the work permit panel) have no reasons to believe something other than USA college football is crap.

I still think he is good enough to play in Europe and we could certainly find a lower/mid table dutch or belgian team where he would have a bigger challenge and would speed up him getting a work permit.

Would the question of a work permit not arise in another European country?
