Israeli international Hatem Abd Elhamed is on his way from Hapoel Be’er Sheva, and had a medical in Paris ahead of his arrival.


Lennon has also identified another player to challenge for that problem position.

As SunSport revealed last week Leicester title winner Danny Simpson was set to begin a trial at Lennoxtown this week.

But that was cancelled with Celts close to a deal for another mystery target.

Asked about Simpson, Lennon said: “That’s not happening. We are down the line with one player, so he is going through the medical process at the minute.

“We got the work permit on Monday so he is doing the paperwork and medical in Paris.”

Replacing Sweden star Mikael Lustig won’t be easy, but Lennon added: “The player can’t think that way. He just has to come in and be himself.

“There are a lot of similarities to Mika. Hatem is a good height, but quicker than Mika — which wouldn’t be hard!

“Mika was a stalwart and really consistent but we can’t think about bringing in the new Mikael Lustig.


Abd Elhamed is his own player and brings a lot of good attributes to the team.

“Right-back has been difficult for Celtic over the last few years, but a lot of clubs are in the same position.

“But we are close with Hatem and in negotiations with another.”

Lenny has already said we are in negotiations with a right back.
