As JC said above if we bring in another 2 CMs I'd loan him out to Hibs.

Without taking sides here, the trajectory of this thread over the past few pages has proven, at the very least, that the point is very much arguable.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am well aware that Johnstone is primed now to play more than Hendo. That isn’t my point.

The path to a first team game is easier for a central midfielder than a winger because there’s 1 more position they can fight for and we’re 1 short in there.

It’s really simple and, yeah, unarguable.

It is true, from what I've seen using the word unarguable shuts down every internet debate satisfying all sides who become best friends

That's the most simplistic analysis of positional competition I could imagine. Especially when you consider Johnston has been deployed on the left, through the middle, and out right at various times so far (personally don't feel he should player anywhere besides left wing). Your argument fails to account for how many other central midfielders are in the squad already and where in the pecking order they lie in their preferred positions. Yes, there are more central midfielders than wingers on the pitch at a time, but how can that be the basis of your argument? Brown, Christie, McGregor, Ntcham, Rogic have all proven to be chosen over Henderson up to this point, whereas Johnston is only really competing with Sinclair barring a monumental summer from Morgan and/or Arzani. Henderson would be competing for either the 8 or the 10 role, meaning he would be vying for that position against Christie, Ntcham, and Rogic-- with Brown locked into the 6 and McGregor locked in to one of the 8 roles. It seems quite unarguable to me that there is more competition in Henderson's preferred position than in Mikey's and therefore.. his path to regular first team football is more difficult.

Was on keeping him but he looks out of the picture to me..

Playing tonight for the kid's and can't get on the bench when Morgan can, Bitton is centre half and Shved is left out of our flag day squad..

If we add to midfield then he looks even further away..

Rate him very highly but needs to be playing every week..

Aye, needs a loan. Even a 6 month loan initially could work and take it from there.

Looks like Ntcham may have got the finger out. So that's him, Brown, McGregor, Christie, Rogic and Bitton. Kouassi and Connell are options as well unless they get loaned out.

Wonder if we'll go back in for Turnbull and maybe throw Henderson in on loan as part of a deal...

    6 month would work fine..

Has all the talent in the world but he's looking way down the pecking order..

Just still too many bodies for those positions. Personally I'd have him.ahead of a couple of them in midfield but seems to be edging towards a loan..

Motherwell would be a good fit if we were trying for that..

Intelligent footballer with vision, skill and creativity.

I thought he would have featured more in pre-season.

He'd be ideal backup if Brown, Christie or Mcgregor get injured or need rested - league cup games etc...

I'd be happy with him, ntcham and rogic if the above players got suspended/dropped.

I would defos loan him to a SPL team for the season ala Christie. Plenty of time for him. Even give him to Motherwell as a sweetener for whenever we go back in for Turnbull

Isn't even close to the side or bench now..

A player that could deffo be making an impact in this side at present. Especially on day's like today..

He took a bit of persuading signing his contract by all account's. He'll be thinking of maybe getting away..

Shouldn't be in the development again this season. Above that now..

Really disappointed in how he's been treated, he should clearly have been loaned out if he wasn't in our plans.

Especially after the pre season he had. He had an impact in nearly every game he played in.

Now is the perfect time to give him game time- when the team is flat and lacking a bit of energy, bring in a young player with ability who wants to fight and make his mark on the team. Gives everyone a kick up the * and lets them know none of their places are guaranteed, even Brown.

I cant imagine a more dynamic midfield than one with Christie and Henderson in it.

Celtic midfielder Ewan Henderson has today joined the Staggies on a season-long loan. Henderson, who has represented Scotland at youth level, has had first team experience at Celtic Park and will undoubtedly be a great addition to our squad.

On the signing, Co-Manager Stuart Kettlewell said “We are delighted to bring Ewan in. We believe he will add a different dimension to us in the middle of the park. Obviously coming from Celtic he has an excellent pedigree and is very highly regarded at Celtic Park. Hopefully, he can come in here and continue to develop and get some game time under his belt.”

Off on loan to Ross County.

Surely means we’re getting another CM in.
